Have a 97 & 7.3, F-350 with some issues. The muffler was cut off by a previous owner.
1) When it is sitting outside idling I find a red substance in the snow dripping off the left rear tire. The only thing I can figure is that it is unburned fuel coming out of the exhaust. Not brake fluid and only occurs when the engine is running
2) A check engine light that comes on intermittently. On when initially started then goes off after a short while. The truck was recently on a scope and I was told the codes are all cleared. I have an OBDII code reader and it retrieves no code
3) Recently it has stalled out, quit running, twice, at a stop sign. At idle. Also while coasting the engine has bucked or faultered. When I accelerated or applied power during this faulter it recovered.
I just replaced the fuel filer and my fuel is clear. I'm not burning died fuel, fuel from the house tank. The transmission is clear and dry. I just changed the oil and no sign of H2O in there. Completely stumped me on what it is. At least this occurs when it is engine running. The faltering and stalling out are a separate and possibly more concerning issue
So I have replaced the cam position sensor and then the ICP which seemed to resolve the quitting while running problem. The cam position sensor was indicated to need replacing by a scan but the culprit involved in quitting while driving sown the road appears to be the ICP
