Good video, Jack. I wonder if the pump running 100% since there is no electronic pressure sensor. I thought I saw somewhere about pump duty cycle . Here it is:
Not sure what that was.
So for non-heated unit, the valve is open based on outside temperature 50 f to 90 f. Would that mean it opens most of the time non winter period of the year and close in the winter cold climate. Maybe without heater, it doesn't matter at all open or close?
Would love to see the world move to brushless starter and pump motor. The brushes are always the weak point and dust generators.
It's a continuous volume pump, the injector circuit is a bypass to the circular path, fuel bled off as needed.
Warming is based on whatever thermal gains from the secondary filter housing under the hood, heat from the pump motor, the process of pumping, as well as ambient now that there is no fuel heater. I'm in process of doing some changes to the video and I've added a chart to show how the actuator extends. The fuel recirculated is proportioned to fuel back to the tank. It takes about one and one-half hours under warm temps for the entire tank to run through the primary filter once, then it continues to be "polished".
Every time I watch one of mine I'm ready to do edits ... but as I edit sometimes I lose the point I was trying to make.
Thanks for the mentioning Jack. Great video to add to your series. Thinking back, I should of gave you my housing that went with that motor. I have not dissected it yet myself, and you would possibly could find the cause of the system not maintaining pressure.
So, with that said, if I get that housing to you and you document the dissection is the footage easily "dubbed" into this video? Then again your findings may not be worthy of adding anyways. What I'm getting at is that you have enough to do and I don't want to make more work for you.
Again, great video.
Thanks. I've been holding off on videos until my sinus get operated on, but I've chickened out again.
I've tried pulling that cap off my good pumps but stopped when I thought I might break mine. I thought at the time you could not find the cap. Possibilities - You could take a picture of it, Les is heading down to Mays Landing as we speak to see our son, but we are talking about going back down on Sat when all the grandkids will be there. Or mail it if you want to.
I haven't figured out yet why your pump was faltering. I may try to heat the motor up and see if there are any breaks in the wiring.
I don't have to release the video today to the public mode, I'm doing edits right now and will repost the video went it's done. Heck, it's been redone for two weeks now. I can always add things to the videos, but once I put it up there I hold off as I'll lose all the discussion and comments; it's not like a forum, they all get deleted.
I'm mentioning you again in the edit, along with one of the Racor people who was on The Diesel Stop. But like most of us who were in the industry at the time, couldn't divulge who he was, but just got the "prove yourself" crap from the public.
I have work today, RV show in PA on Friday, but should be around Sat. Reach out if you're coming down this way & we'll figure it out.
Tonight when I get home I'll have to find it. I know it's in the garage somewhere.
Thanks, I've technically got four HFCM pumps right now in-house, three working. The offer is appreciated.
I was just trying not to destroy a working pump if I didn't have to. One is always good to have as a backup. When I did long trips I would carry a Racor pump only replacement just in case. Where I have mine, it would not be a hard thing to change out on the road in an emergency.
I know what you mean. I have an Air Dog II pump and the motor started failing 50 miles from home. I barely made it home and now carry a spare. Should have probably stayed with the stock pump but now with their new style motor it's been solid.
Great job on the vid, Jack -- I have been wanting to get my hands on a HFCM so I could learn how the system worked, now I don't need to from watching your video -- I appreciate all you do to help inform and educate
