Today it was 2 degrees here in Michigan. Started truck drove 1/4 mile and it was in regen smelled bad. Thought things had to come up to temperature before starting. Sure wish my STX had the info on DPF and regens.
All the info you find about the regen process says the truck has to be at normal operating temp. It’s not the case. I started a regen about 1min after using the command start in -30C temperature. I couldn’t believe the truck would regen when not warmed up. Basically, if the truck needs to regen, it will regen no matter if parameters parameters are or aren’t met.
Learn to use forscan and add the DPF % yourself. It’s intimidating but it is unbelievably easy to use. FYI, the DPF % screen will read 0% if you stay below freezing temps for long periods of time. (-10C is when I notice it and won’t start reading again until it’s 3C out for a day or so) Mine and a few other 2018s have discussed this. It he screen may read 0% but the DPF is still filling up and the truck will regen as normal. Just the screen has problems reporting the percentage.
Agree Forscan is the way to go or the dealer can do the screen with their IDS. Depends on the year of the truck, my trucks been in lots of cold, never seen it stay at 0%. 100% starts regen so long as conditions are met, however, depending on how long it’s been at 100% which it can actually measure grams per Litre up to 300% (which it doesn’t display) it will be initiating regen more forcefully. Up to the point of drive to clean messages.

What year is your truck? How cold are we talking about and for how many days in a row? One guy from Texas said he’s never seen it stay at 0 and There were lots of cold days there. That’s not cold. Lol.
Please bear with me, this stuff is new to me. Took delivery of my 2020 F350 PS yesterday. I ordered the truck with operator command regen. In the maintenance section I have the the dpf percentage screen. Is there anything that needs to be turned on by the dealer? I can’t find how to start a regen.
It’s only at 20% but would like to understand what I need to do.
Does it need to be at a certain % before it will do a regen, automatically or manual?
Thanks in advance.
Auto or manual Regen will only happen at 100% DPF. Programming might be a bit different on a 2020. That is The only time a manual regen can be run as well, you have to have auto regen de-selected. Then it will command you to do a stationary regen at 100%. Honestly probably better to leave auto regen selected for the most part. Manual regen is for when you are condpcerned about a hot DPF driving in a dry grass field or on a construction site and concerned about fire. Prompts will ask if in a safe place. Will take a solid 20 minutes at full operating temps.
TeddyD - I’m in North Central BC, Canada. We get weeks of -25 to -40 C, my truck was brought home in a December winter storm, -15 to -25 first day. I’m almost through the third winter. I’ve seen a regen leaving on a 650 Km trip and watched it hit 0% DPF, and it takes 40 Km at -25 C, and in the first 100 km after regen it’s back to 15-25% DPF. In the summer pulling, in the heat, it will take the whole trip to get to 80% DPF, the more heat, the better for DPF. I can tell what it’s doing just watching my fuel consumption. I don’t even have to see the DPF gauge anymore.

Thanks for 5he info and the video. On mine I don’t have the option to choose auto or manual. My be something the dealer will have to open .
But again thanks. I’m sure things will get clearer as we go.

Yup, you’re in the cold lol. Must be a 2018 issue with staying at 0% in cold weather. A guy from Ontario has the same issue. I look at the screen because when I am working in the northern Alberta/B.C. oilfields, I can go weeks without being able to get my truck up to 60km/hr for more than 5 minutes. Screen hits 100 then I do a manual regen. In the winter, with the screen always at 0, the truck will just do one when I’m sitting at idle. I can’t start a manual regen. I wish it worked.
