Well boys... I hope I took good notes and bagged everything appropriately!!! Just got the motor and trans back from being rebuilt. Any guidance for a first timer?? (I'm fighting the flu at the moment so it will probably sit where it is till next weekend!!)
76 F150 w/460, C6 with Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 EFI system
I have Hedman Long tube headers.... took roughly 2 weeks to get the trans back and a week on the motor. I ended up using the original motor builder that I had in mind. He doesnt communicate worth a hoot but if theres an issue all, he warranties his work for 10k miles or 2 years.
Any idea what it is going to make for numbers? Did he stick to the $1,500 he quoted you?
It was $1593 out the door however I supplied the cam, lifters, springs, retainers and locks from Cam Research (roughly $350). They did quite a bit of head work. He simple stated, "these things had asthma from the factory".... He also had to put a sleeve in #1. It was full of rust. They installed all new "flat top" pistons, H rods and timing gear set. He wasnt able to dyno the motor due to my EFI intake but stated that it should be close to the 400 HP range, mid 400 torque and a good power band that will die off close to 5k rpm. Once I get it up and running, I'm going to take it by for a true dyno run.
That is an extremely budge minded build and all for under two grand. Those numbers are a good combination. I had 338 hp and around 440 torque out of my Fe and it was a blast to drive. Kudos my friend kudos!

Add another $2k for the EFI system as well... I should be in the $12k range on the truck, including purchase price, as she sits currently.
Lol, how can I forget the EFI. That’s what started the whole out of control build I got going on, lol! That is not to bad of a budget for a new drive train and good looking truck that you will end up with. I don’t even want to really think about the amount of money I have in mine at this point. I have been collecting parts for 24 years and the cost would be even higher if I had to try and find them let alone buy them today. Your build is looking great! Keep up the good work.
The ProFlo system sent me down the rabbit hole of aftermarket EFI systems. I settled on the Holley Sniper for my 351M and it's been a treat so far. The worst part was finding all the little vacuum leaks on my rig.
@AnotherChef - that looks like a really sweet setup! If I ever get the 460 bug that'll be a serious contender. Hope you get well soon and share pictures of the install!
We all wish you the best of luck. I, for one, will be keen to hear if you are happy with the EFI b/c I have a '77 460 for my next build, a '76 F-100 RWD. Do get over that flu soon.
Update time.... remaining to-do list: Ford wiring, Edelbrock wiring, bleed PS, trans vaccum line, return fuel line for EFI, button up cosmetics.... then maybe she will start!!!! Just dropped her off at the muffler shop for a pair of 40s and 2 1/2 dumped over the rear axle.
