I have a 1987 F-250 4x4 last year I replaced the engine 351w. I don't drive it much start every month or so. During the last cold spell we had I started it brought it up to temp. had the heater running all was well. Shut it off and loosened the cap and it gurgled and boiled over Last year I hauled a camper for a guy to a place in the woods real muddy drive. Had to work it hard to get it in the place for the drop. It over heated the guy I was hauling for said I needed a new fan clutch. So ow I'm exploring maybe changing to a junk yard electric fan system. Don't know what will work maybe mustang, crown vic, explorer. Any thoughts. Thx David

Why did you take the cap off in the first place? You removed the pressure in the system so I’m not surprised the coolant came shooting out. You’re lucky you weren’t burned by the 200+ degree coolant.
Did you top off the coolant and bleed the air out of the system after it boiled over? If the fan clutch is actually bad then that would be much easier than switching to an electric fan. I haven’t read anything that leads me to believe there is an issue that you didn’t cause.
and once that 200*+ water hits you, you cant wipe it off, no matter how fast your reflexes are, the burning has begun, with truck off, and keys in your pocket, can you spin the fan easily or is there resistance when you try to spin the fan
