I have a 1985 Bronco with a 351w 4bbl holley and auto trans.
I picked this up for a project as it wasn't rusted too bad and the
girl who owned it just had the tranny overhauled. Her father was
the original owner and he kept all the reciepts and such showing
the repair history and parts he had replaced.
Since I have owned it I have replaced the fuel pump and lines and
the ps pump and lines and tranny lines and water pump and the
themostat. I also have put a new master cylinder on it.
I have replaced the floor pan on drivers side welding a new one
in.
So here is my problem I did a tune up and put new plugs wires
and cap and rotor on it. Truck runs fine, starts well in colder
weather. But wants to die on hot days when started but if i give
it gas it will eventually smooth out. I am thinking too much choke?
My problem now is it is running too rich and the fumes are about
to drive me nuts I am not the best mechanic in the world more a
body guy and it has been so long since i touched a carb. Any
suggestions or where I should look on the carb. It was rebuilt
about a year ago but i think whomever installed it had no clue as
to fine tuning it. oops almost forgot has headers cats and dual
mufflers out.
Vac choke pull-off? Pass side of carb on air horn. Hose may have come off. If is running well otherwise, I would look at this first. If the weather is warm, you could just tie the choke plate open and see if the problem goes away. Not sure about your carb but Ford used two different choke stoves. Electric and mechanical. If yours is electric, the wire may have pulled off. If it is mech, there is a vac hose that draws air thru the stove and coil that may be disconnected or swapped with something else. Check the vac hose diagram on the hood.
