Yep. Color code 2. (mtflat may have that in his database, but it sounds like you already know that as red). MP is assembly plant Memphis. 3F is scheduled build date June 3, 1948. 144 is the rotation number, an internal tracking ID number used in the factory. It has no meaning to the truck. In case you were curious.
Yes, color code 2 is Vermillion Red on the production code
Wayne gave you the rest of it.
Ford used the Y code for both F2 and F3 until around 110,000. The one thing that MIGHT help you figure it out is the rear brake drum size. In 48 F2s used a 12" rear brake drum. F3s used a 14" drum.
If you get a chance, check your read drum diameter and it will verify the shop manual data as an F3
Additional info. F2 became the light duty 3/4 ton and F3 was the heavy duty 3/4 ton. F4 was the 1 ton truck. Confusion reigns around here because in Canada an F3 or F68 was considered a 1 ton truck.
Both F2 and F3 have 122" wheelbase, both have the same 8 lug wheels which incidentally is the same pattern used until 1996 F250s.
If you don't mind I'd like to get your truck in the right slot in the data base. Could you please send me your full serial string by private message. It is safe to post here however. All of our serial numbers are posted in the 48-50 vin number post.
