Auto wipers

Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the sensitivity of the auto wipers?

I've been operating under the assumption that the "delay" adjustment also adjusts the sensitivity when the automatic wipers are chosen vs manual mode.

Yes but I don't really think it works all that well. I'll have mine set to to slowest setting and it constantly goes right to full speed

My auto wipers worked amazingly for the first 18 months. i have a 2018. I live in greater Seattle so I'm probably a pretty good use case. A few weeks ago, they going at near full speed kind of out of the blue. Upon further inspection, I noticed that the driver's side wiper is no longer clearing the water (on the back swipe) at the rain sensor. I moved to manual until I can get to the dealership for new wipers.

You may want to look to make sure your wipers are doing the job. Mine have obvisously gone bad and are streaking up by the sensor giving a false positive for rain on the windshield.

Agreed. The system is crap. I almost always have to advance the delay setting 1x in order to get them going when I first start. I've tried to wait it out and have gotten out of my neighborhood before it finally realized the windshield was covered in rain.

My 2017 auto wipers were fairly aggressive and wiped to often before. I’m on my second windshield and about 6th set of wipers. I run on the lowest auto setting. It takes care of the rest. They have saved me a few times when a ton of slouch has splashed up and cemetery blocked my view. Several fast wipes and I could see. I always leave them on the lowest setting for this reason. Now I find sometimes I push the swipe button to get an extra wipe. When roads are really bad and slushy, mucky, salty, they work good. Really light rain or mist, I need to step it up, hard rain the wipe a lot, but they do keep your vision free and clear. Perhaps they wipe to often but better than not enough in some conditions. Check the glass behind the camera in front tpof the rear view mirror for obstructions?

What I found that helps is to turn the dial on the stalk all the way forward (fastest setting) and then back to the (lowest setting). This helped my auto wipers not act crazy but I still don’t like them. I don’t know why it works but another user posted that in another thread and it worked for me.

Remember if a bug(s) hits on a certain spot that will activate the auto wipers until it is gone.

I just turned my auto wipers off through the center dash setup screen. They were terribly annoying. I think I can manage controlling wipers myself.

Mine have always worked great but will over-wipe if a bug hits the windshield in the right spot or if the wipers smear. I believe there is a calibration that the dealer can perform if the wipers are not detecting or over-detecting. Make sure there's no schmutz in front of the sensor.

I never use mine for that reason. I might try the technique mentioned above.

I had all of the sensors and parts replaced under warranty at the dealership in the first 6 months of my 2017 ownership. It still worked so bad that I couldn't use it. The dealership said yep we have replaced everthing and had no more solutions from Ford and admitted no fix. They made sure that I knew how to turn it off on the main screen. The disabling occurred 65000 miles ago for me. A couple of drops of rain or snow and it would go wide open all of the time - Very annoying.
