good evening. I have a 1966 f100 with a 240 inline 6 the carb that is on it has number 7074s I need to no what carb I should buy for it and where to get it. I am dumb as a rock when it comes to carbs so any help would be great. thanks jim
Hey I just installed a carburetor on my 1965 F-100. Mine originally had an Autolite 1101 on it, but it was toast even after a rebuild, so I ended up installing a brand new Daytona Universal CHV. I'm not sure I can say I'm happy with my carburetor yet because I'm still working on getting it tuned correctly. I have a stumble on accelerating from idle. Replacing the spark plugs helped a bunch, but think my timing is off.
Anyway, it sounds like maybe you have a Carter YF on there now?
You could also search for a rebuilt Carter YF that matches what you have on there now, and trade in your current one. There's also other brands that might fit your truck like Holley but I don't have experience with those.
Getting a universal carburetor would be an option as well. Depends on what you wanna do and how much money you wanna spend!
I have a 1966 F100, 240 that I put a Holley 1940 on. It basically is an industrial carb. They can be bought new or used. There is a place called Mike's Carburetor parts that you might want to check out.
Just replaced the Carb on our 66 F100 with 240 I6 that had a autolite 1101.
surprisingly, the carter YF clone from China that we found on eBay for $60 bolted right up, required zero tuning, and worked great. You’ll need a 1/4 npt to 1/8 barb fitting to use flexible fuel line with a hose clamp.
