another sick six?

I have an 88 F-150 300/6 4x4. I want more power and am not sure what to do with an injected motor and a computer.
Motor is in excelent shape, just weaker than my choice of tire.
The exaust was cut between the o2 sensor and cat. converter. I tossed the converter and ran 3" exaust into a 2.5" turbo muffler.
The Taylor spiral wires and new fuel injectors are all that has been done. That is except regular oil changes and tune ups.
100k on motor seems tight.
I would like to find some more horses somewhere and I am not sure where to start looking.
Is a chip a good investment?
cam?
I would appreciate any experience that you might have.
thanks

I dont know what it would do on your truck but porting and polishing my intakes and heads on my 5.0 worked wonders, and I too replaced the fuel injectors, by any chance when you did that did you also get a adjustable fuel regulator? I think that also needs to be added so you can dial in the extra fuel, cam should definatly help and might even give that 6 a higher revving power range...

another sick six?

Hello. I am new at this. I just bought my first EVER pickup. A 1995 F150 XL. A basic 4X4 pickup. It has the 300 ci (4.9L) six with a 5 speed stick. When I was younger I drove dump trucks with this same engine in it. It is a fine engine, but it ain't a hot rod engine.
But understand that I am somewhat different from most of you. My previous vehicle was a 94 GEO Tracker. Don't laugh, she gave me 32 mpg, and ran quite well. But with 122k hard driven miles and an expansion of my job travel, I decided to get this truck. It gets between 22 and 15 mpg, and to me it has PLENTY of power.
This is the first full size vehicle I have had in over 15 years. It is nice to have a smooth ride on these sorry Pa highways. And compared to the Tracker, the single cab is like a gym! Every tool and accessory I had stowed in the Tracker fits behind the seat!
I hope to upgrade exhaust system and do a few simple things to improve performance, but she is fine just like she is.
