F250 too high maintenance?
#16
I知 on my 3rd F250 and I知 getting tired of the constant need to take it to a dealership. It seems like it痴 always some warning light coming on even though the truck runs fine. Last month I took it in because the check engine light was on yet again and they said the computer just needed to be updated. Now the check engine light is on again. Does anyone else feel like these newer models are too finicky? Does Ford do it on purpose to make more money on service? Does anyone know if Chevy or Dodge have similar issues?

As the owner of a 2016 F-250 6.7L diesel as well as being a Ford dealership technician, I agree with the first of the two. The 6.2L V8 has been nothing short of extremely solid overall since it's introduction alongside the 6.7L diesel back in 2011. The 7.3L diesel was a pretty good engine back in the day, but it is also 17 model years old on the newest one you can get. Do you really want to fool with getting into a 17 model year old, or older vehicle to daily drive?

I have a 2014 250 with the 6.7, it's been in the shop three times in 150,000 miles, a radiator shortly after I bought the truck replaced under warranty, vacume pump replacement at 140,000 miles due to a gasket leak, and my favorite exhaust system replacement after some scum sucking bottom feeder cut everything from the down pipe just in front of the cross-member to right in front of the rear axle. I do get a DEF Heater error right now depending on the temperature so I need to replace the heater.

The 6,7 is a nightmare POS. Maybe better but still junk. 7.3 was the best ever.

FWIW - I have a 2016 F250, 6.2 with 67K miles. Never seen a warning light come on. Its a rock solid truck, I love it. The only issue I have is the drivers door speaker keeps cutting out. But if I wiggle the wire bundle between the frame and door, it works again for a while. I suppose it must be a bad wire connector. But that is just a minor annoyance.

I do agree if OP doesn't tow REAL heavy a 6.2 gasser is a great option. The new 7.3 might be, too, but I don't think we know. We're talking about the manufacturer who brought us TFI, TTB, AOD, C2 ps pumps, and a slew of crappy 3V engines...so I'd like to see what the new 7.3 is doing at 100k miles
But for the 6.2....just change the plugs every 100k. You will eventually get catalyst efficiency codes, mine started at 130k, most seem to go much longer. Since we don't have inspections I refuse to replace the cats but there are other options
Otherwise OP, you already own a nice truck - just enjoy it!
