I am down to one of four (I think) dashboard (by the speedometer) lights. Anyone know how I get inside there to change them?? All help is appreciated. I have a '97 F150.
Welcome to FTE. I haven't personally had my dash apart yet to tell you.
I am sure that someone on this site has. I would suggest getting a Haynes manual for your truck. You would be suprised how hany they can be. They are under $20 at most auto parts stores.

Please Let us know how the instrument light bulbs turn out. I just bought a 97 F-150 and I am down to one bulb around my speedometer. I would rather fix myself then take it in to be repaired if possible!
I've done a ton of the f-150 and expedition dash lights. There are two major tricks, or youre gonna break something. On the autos you need to disconenct the shift indicatior cable. And carefully reach behind the headlight switch to unlock a "secret tab" push it in with a small screwdriver to pop out the headlight switch to find the conceled screw. all of the rest is removed with a 9/32 socket. I'd recommend taking it to a small dealer (not ford...theives) who is familiar with this procedure. The entire job takes 15 minutes start to finish, and change all of the bulbs while you're at it.
I apologize Racerguy, it was a generalization and it was wrong of me. We don't have the best dealerships here in Maine. There are a couple of good ones, but for the most part, the largerones, especially in my area are terrible. If I know anyone who wants a reliable dealer sevice, i'll be sure to send them to BC. *wink*

Thats a pretty crappy reply to give considering this is a forum... specifically for the purpose of getting tips and ideas. Haynes manuals are great if you're going to tear into a major job, small jobs too, but shouldn't warrant spending approximately $20 just to change a few lightbulbs if someone has the information. Thats why we post questions, and reply to others is to save a guy a few bucks if possible.
I think that having a manual is a good idea no matter what part of your truck you're working on. Buying a manual for a simple light bulb problem might not seem to make much sense but I'd bet it would get used for more than just this problem.
One of the things about a forum like this is that anyone can give ideas and opinions. They aren't always the same as everyone thinks but that's ok.
What works for me might not work for you and getting other opinions can be a good thing.
None of us here know everything

I think that there are two type of bulbs in the dash as well. Dont forget to set your park brake, as you will need to move the gearshift out of the park position for access. Good luck, and take your time.
