Weird Electrical

Hi all, First post but I've been reading through the posts for a week. 2003 Navigator 67k miles. I just got it, and thought it was a steal. It has some electrical demons that I thought would be easy to trace. It turns out it is not easy at all.
Dome lights only work when turning the car off, auto lights don't work, 4x4 doesn't work, lift gate doesn't work, radio doesn't turn off, locks do crazy things. I haven't driven it enough to find out what else is wrong.
I thought it was the VSM- but I got a new one and No Change. But so far, no change. I've torn the floor panels up and I see no bad wires. I've checked every fuse. What else can I do? And will getting ford to reprogram, solve these issues if it was the VSM?
I'm at a loss.
Thx in advance ,
Noobie

So with the ignition key off and you open either front door the radio doesn't turn off ? By door locks doing crazy things what do you mean? The 4x4 actuator solenoid is a know weak spot on Ford 4x4 cases. You can access it and it's harness from underneath and test it. Neither key fob will actuate the rear lift gate ?

Neither door opening or closing stops the radio. Key fobs where not present when I bought the truck. I just got new ones but have not programed them yet.
After I hit the lock on the door. a few minutes later they are unlocked. Go figure.

Unplug the driver's side door lock switch and manually lock them and see if they stay locked. A lot of times that switch gets damaged from water when people open the door in the rain to get in and out. Over so many years it adds up to corrosion and a bad switch. I assume you got key FOBs with the liftgate buttons ? With the key off, does the radio eventually turn off after 10 minutes ? You might have to check the condition of the door jamb switches in the front doors. They're mounted in the latch mechanisms of each front door. Do you get "Door Ajar" messages in the info panel when you open a door ?

Hey Noobie, has it recently rained on you? Anytime I see electrical gremlins and Ford Expedition in the same sentence or thread, I will default to your window seal is leaking and water is dripping on/into your GEM module. Do some research here looking for water or wet GEM module, window seal leak, or electrical gremlins and you'll find some answers.

I had the same problem, did some research, found moisture on the GEM module so I had my window seal replaced, gremlins went away.

Ok so I changed out the VSM. I got the car reprogramed. It shows no reports, But STILL nothing works. No trunck/liftgate opening. Int lights don't come on when opening a door. stereo stays on. auto lights don't work. 2wd-4wd switch doesn't do anything. ETC. Any other ideas?

Semi solved. I checked the purple wires. and they seemed good. But. I cut them open and respliced them anyway. and wala. My int lights work. my stereo turns off. I have not been able to check the auto head lights yet. I now get a door ajar at all times. lol There are still a few things to work on. I still have no liftgate, no running boards. no 4x4-2wd control, {which the front left side is squealing} I plan to check vacuum stuff on that.
I also still cant get the key fobs to work or program at all. and I am sure there are other things. But so far, I will call this a Win.

Must've been a cold solder joint. Good job in not making any assumptions.

Now to find the door ajar issue. And then the tire sensor, and to fix the 4x4 issue.
