My question to you is where i can find a repair manual for replacing a cab on my '87 f-150, an online step by step manual would be ****, but if i have to buy it i will. I was cruisin through the woods the other night, when i went through some brush, and low and behold, BOOM a big *** branch went through my windshield, absolutley demolishing the top of the cab, cutting and welding is not an option, i have another cab to swap it with, but i need to know the exact details on how to do it. Thanx
To replace your cab, you will have to do the following
1. Remove the front end sheet metal
2. Remove the bed
3. Disconnect the steering and remove the column and shift linkage.
4. Undo the wiring harness from the firewall.
5. Disconnect fuel lines (if tank in cab)
6. Remove everything in the cab you will need for the new cab. Doors, front and rear glass, seats, carpet/floor covering, wiring and such. This will make the cab easier to handle with a few guys.
7. Unbolt the four cab mount bolts (may need to cut if rusted on)
pick up cab and remove by way of rear end (this way the engine and trans can stay in).
Make sure and purchase new cab and radiator support mounts and hardware even if the old ones "look" good.
Place the new cab on the frame with out the rubber. you can push up on the cab and stick these in afterwards.
reinstall everything you need and install the doors and front end. It really isn't too difficult but it is a lot of work.
My 87 truck has a ground strap under the drivers door that connects the cab to frame so you might wanna see if that pertains to you as you might get it up a couple of inches off the frame and wonder what the H**L is holding it down. later and good luck
