turning emissions light off

The 87 301 Bronco just passed emissions here a month ago. Now the emissions light is on. I know they are OK (as it passed) and would like to know where to jump to turn it off.
Thankx

Just because it passed last month doesn't mean there is something wrong now. Have you run a diagnostic on your trouble codes? Your O2 sensor could have gone out. If it has and you don't fix it, you could messup a valve. If everything is actually fine just disconnect your positive battery cable for 10 seconds to reset the computer.

Remember don't just ignore the emissions light just because it passed a month ago.

Autozone can tell you exactly what the codes, but 99Z% of the time that it what the problem is.

Actually they will tell you how to do it, but I don't think they will do it for you. Do you have a haynes manual? In there it tells you how to use a analog voltage meter, it is actually pretty cool. If you do not have a meter, Wlamart has them dirt cheap and Autozone may also.

AutoZone will pull OBDII codes, but they won't pull other codes. Here's Steve83's guide on how to pull the codes yourself with a paperclip:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...hreadid=112293

It's pretty straightforward and won't take you but about five minutes.

I had a 87' with the 302 and had the emiss light come on at about 120000 miles had it checked out by a local tune up chain and was told there was nothing wrong and that the mfgr had it set up to trip the light about every 60000 miles to get folks to get folks to check out their rides. sure enough, it did it again at 180000 miles......

On an Isuzu truck we used to have you had to remove the cluster and move a screw from one hole to the other at 90k miles to turn off the 02 light. At 180k miles, you just move the screw back to the original hole...

Guys, whether the computer triggers the light to come on at some particular interval through normal programming cycles or not, the fact remains that ignoring the light or just clearing the codes doesn't FIX the problem IF there is one. So, pulling the codes when the light does come on is always a good idea. In the long run, it sure beats replacing something that fails like oh...lets see...maybe an engine! The process detailed in the Haynes manual can be simplified down even further and codes can be gotten with a paperclip and your eyeballs. Hardly seems worth the possibility of some small problem (that could easily be rectified) turning into something lifethreatening for the truck, to NOT check it just because we assume we know more than the computer. It doesn't take that long and for my money, (which I happen to enjoy keeping), its worth the time that one does spend.

i'd bet money that if he has the codes pulled from the comp. there isn't any.emission light is not the check engine light.if dissconnect the brown box in question the truck runs fine acts fine and no codes.

Guess i['m not familiar with this "emission" light. 92-96 has no such animal that I am aware of and they are the ones i am most familiar with.

87/351W - Automatically triggered by mileage

My 87 did this just a few months ago. Not a thing wrong emissions-wise, just time to reset the light. You can check into your emissions system all you want and verify it's still working as advertised, or reset the light. Your choice.

Thanks

It seems that the easiest thing was to check codes (none) and reset the emissions light.
Thanks for everyones ideas

as I recall my 87 had both a check engine light and an "emiss" light. we did attempt to pull codes and found none.
