I recently bought a 2010 Expedition 2wd that had a weak 5.4 engine. That is now replaced and I'm finally getting some seat time in this thing. Being used to my other older Fords (see my signature), I find this newer 6 speed up-shifts feel pretty weak regardless of throttle pressure. The 1-2 and 2-3 don't have the firmness of the other gears (or my other SUVs). I changed the fluid with Mercon LV and filter before the engine went back in, and what I drained out looked really good. So this is my base line "normal".
Is this weak up-shift a characteristic that is normal for others, or am I seeing impending transmission repairs in my near future?
That should have been addressed in a re- flash in November of 2011. I am betting you don't have the most up to date flash. Generally though the 6R80 is smoother shifting.
. . . and: Yes these are torque managed transmissions. They don't just grab the next set of clutches to shift gears like a C6 or a turbo 400 if you've been in the GM world, and they don't give you that kick when they do it. They plan the whole shift out and let off the throttle momentarily (remember it is fly by wire) to make the shift smoother.
