Why not go with a sump?

And yes, this is a very interesting thread already. I'm always in to learn more about the fuel system.

All it takes is running over a deer, hog, tree limb, road debris etc to take out a fuel line and you’ll drain the tank of diesel on the road. I hit animals all the time down here, hence the full front brush guard. No reason for that BS when mine works as intended. I have driven it 5200 miles and works fine except for the one time I let my level hit the low fuel light which is too low for comfort anyway. I’ll have the new $35 foot next week and install it after I run the fuel down. I filled her up with 44 gallons and had my new heads leaking diesel into my coolant and now a full rebuild so...
And I also have an Excursion so that means cutting the skid plate. I don’t see a benefit of a sump on anything but a track truck to be honest. If I was buying a truck and found out it had a sump I would probably pass.

I cancelled my order and have this foot on the way now that I know it will fit! Thanks again.
I would be apprehensive to use the foot on the inside of a 1/2” tube. With it being an exact 1/2” it will not have any pressure fitting against the hard line. With the fuel pull up under vacuum, at low fuel beneath the connection air would be more prone to pull up between the foot and hard line rather then the heavier fuel. You could take the screen off and push a sleeve up the foot to provide force against the tube to prevent that, but then you would be causing more of a restriction.

I will try to figure something out, I have a bunch of 1/2” stainless tubing to play with. If it flops I’ll buy the 6.7 sending unit and go that route. It might actually be what I should have stuck with instead of cancelling the order earlier.

Not to stir the pot or convince anyone of the benefits of a sump at all. I too was worried about the exact same thing as mentioned, anything hitting the sump. Until I saw the video (may or may not have been XDP) of the guy smacking the sump with a sledge hammer trying to knock it off. If you ever saw one in person and ever actually personnally bolted it to the tank, you will see the sump and mounting flange is much stronger than the tank itself. In other words, its stronger that the tank (getting cracked or sliced open upon impact) or a transmission or oil pan or shock and probably the driveshaft. Believe me, I hate leaks and would never installed one if I ever thought a sump could leak. Again, not trying to persuade, just giving first hand actual information.

I should add that never had any intention of using the hose off the sump as a feed. I plugged mine. And yes the factory feed is an atmospheric pressure deal (if you will inside the tank). So extending the pickup into the sump only helps feed naturally.

I don’t take it wrong at all, you are entitled to your opinion for sure. I don’t know how many times I almost bought the Beans or XDP sump. Beans makes a micro sump now too for $55. That sump plugged with my feed tube extended into it would definitely work great. I’ll sleep on it.

Real world as now we took a break on doing the building,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yall totally turned the other post into idiocy. Get rid of the foot. Face it,,,,,,some Ford parts just suck man,,,,they do, Fact. Get a grip and deal with helping peeps. Cool thing is,,,,,the 7.3 and the 6.0 are making a strong comeback. Even the 6.4. Why? Cause they charging too much for inferior crap. We lived the last 15 years and we got screwed. PERIOD. Help out people, you know better? Say it. dont berrage people if they differ. Cause anyone involed with the 6.0 design and is living pretty,,,,,,,,,f you. This hurt me and my family for a long time. So if you wanna send me money or the other 700K money ,,,,,do so. Until then I sugest you open up to the aftermarket and dont get so cocky. just my 1 cent. Sorry to th op. Sorry, James Roos

But I do real world. A sump is a reat thing , if allowed in your state. for your DIESEL truck. PERIOD! If you can keep a clean tank thats imperitive. I dont think anyone disagrees. Im drinking. Ive personnally done alot of these, willing to help, and yes we drink. My shop has done every moddification known to man,,,,,,, yes,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Im actually done with cars, but love my tucks,,,,,,,,,,,,,buying a dump truck this week. So if you want me here im cool,,,,,,but when it comes to aftermarket..........slow ya rolll.... lotta stuff you wouldnt believe,,,,, and yes,,,, I would love KDD aluminum heads or my 6 oh... but the cost overriiiiiiiiiiiieds my demand. Just to clear up stupid stuff, with a dang foot from ford being ba solid piece,,,which its not, PERIOD
