I just order a custom Centric wiring harness. I am done with this rat nest spliced dry rotted faded hard/brittle fire hazard!
almost had a fire, thank GOD I saw it
looking forward to ripping out this mess and starting over.
sorry for the rant.......
I was there. One of the best mods I've done so far. I was trying to sort through the original harness and would get frustrated. The Centech Harness is great
We started installing an EFI engine in a friend's '77 Bronco and he wanted to keep the original harness for budget reasons and "do it later" (as if he would!) but literally the first wires we started to mess with cracked and broke open the old dried out sleeves and so the next thing we did was get a Centech harness too!
Definitely a good decision.
So, what smoked? Or to paraphrase that catchy song, "Who let the smoke out" !
What and where and did you get video?
When you say custom Centric Wire Harness, how did you order it? Is it a plug and play? How much? I did all new wiring in 67' Cougar (sequential turn signals) and I understand the frustration. I would be interested in an all new harness prior to scabbing and fixing the old one.

hahaha, no video.
the PO spliced in a 74 steering column, ignition switch and removed or cut various wires for some reason I can't comprehend. Mind you all of the splices were just twisted together with tape. The cigarette lighter wire was cut and twisted together and the crappy tape job was falling off and exposed the twisted wire. While removing the heater box for a rebuild, one of the heater cables rested on the exposed section of the cigarette wire and began to GLOW red. I was up under the dash and my arm was close enough to the cable and began to feel the heat! Thank GOD i was up under the dash and did not walk away, it could have been a disaster. My son was upstairs and my mind started racing thinking what could have been if i had not caught it.
At that moment I pulled the negative on the battery cable and called Centric. Ironically 3 days ago I was telling my dad I was thinking of getting a whole new wiring harness because i was afraid of a fire.

Well its custom because I talked to Jim at Centric and we discussed what factory plugs I need for the options in my truck. I did not need certain options that some other trucks had. I took pictures of all the factory plugs to make sure they would match up. Jim then builds the harness for you. its a custom build harness after you order. He purchased hundreds of factory ford harness plugs over the years so he can build harnesses with the right plugs. The fuse panel has all he extra openings for extra options like, amps, power windows, locks, A/C etc. if you want to add later. Mine will come wired for the options I wanted. It should be 95% plug and play. I paid $530
Agree. If it is a plug n play it is worth a few bucks more.
Most of the stand alone harnesses are all GM plugs and switches. I've used American Autowire and EZ wire. Nothing bad about the quality overall. The Autowire had a really nice booklet. The EZ was like a 15 yr old hand drew it and made copies. It worked.
Centech usually uses GM color codes too, but they are all printed with easy to read descriptions along the entire wire.
Are the Ford truck harnesses using Ford colors? If so that would be a bonus, but with the printing, not a necessary thing.
Are you also getting an ignition switch? Is it a Ford model, or more of a universal?
And for those hunting down the company online, it's Centech Wire (www.centechwire.com). Centric makes the brake stuff!
Would get confusing even to google..
I looked at all the companies for the harnesses. I really like the Ron Francis ones, but they are pricey. I ended up getting the universal one from Painless for a truck. I am lucky enough to have like three harnesses and multiple switches. So I will reuse all my original switches and there plugs. I plan on using weather pack connectors for ease of removing Dash, Engine Harness and anywhere else things need to disconnect. I went with Painless only due to the price, Autozone had a coupon and it had a rebate. I was able to gat the harness for just over $150. I think it will be all worth it as it has three times the circuits of the original set-up.
