So a bit disappointed today. Looked at several Lariats, SuperCrew, and the payloads were only 1600-1700# (per yellow sticker). Even without Moonroof. They had the MaxTow, 502A package and not much other weighted accessories. As mentioned elsewhere and confirmed you can not get a Lariat with HDPP. I was hoping to get closer to 2000# payload. I plan to add a basic fiberglass Leer campershell, and still want 1600# for my camping and travel trailer needs. I know payload is payload, but would it be unreasonable to consider a Lariat, and after the fact if I get a bit more squat than I want with Travel Trailer, maybe add a rear end spring or some type of suspension upgrade. My Travel Trailer is loaded at 6500#. Say 800 tongue weight, 100# WDH, me and wife, 400, firewood, burgers and beer, 200, that comes to 1500#. That's realistic, but if I add a campershell, I'd guess 300#, and it goes to 1800#. Possibly 100# over the yellow sticker?
Many folks have made the mistake of not doing their homework, thinking that a fully loaded truck with the trailer towing package, would meet their needs for towing. After i looked at the numbers, I went with a Superduty.
Everyone is going to tell you something different. There are plenty of trucks that run around over GVWR and don't have any problems. I've knowingly overloaded my truck by several hundred pounds for short trips and never had any issues..... in the short term to speak of.
Would I knowingly do it with a camper and family in tow? Personally no. I like more safety margin and that is cutting it too close. Also that 100 lbs over payload could always change, what if you have an extra person in the truck? Some extra gear that was unaccounted for?
If you were super careful about putting weight in the trailer instead of the truck (provided you were under your trailer GVWR as well) you could probably get away with it.
Food for thought. None of us will be driving your truck so it's really up to you. I know you don't want to hear this but a HDPP XLT would fit the bill perfectly. Or you could step up to a superduty and still get the Lariat trim you're interested in with payload for days.
My 2015 Lariat 502a, moonroof has a paltry 1572lbs payload. It works for me because my trailer is only 4500 fully loaded.

It's really a bit of a myth that trim levels effect payload too much (Limited excepted). Options like the Pano Roof, yes, but trims a little but not hundreds of pounds. I did way too research before I said "to heck with this" and ordered a HDPP/MTTP. My Lariat Screw has a payload of 2409.
If you Google Hanna Ford ( an Ontario Canada dealer) their website has photos of the trucks they have for sale including the door stickers, this a great service for truck buyers.
Good on you for doing the research before buying. Our Blacksmith was just here hauling a 20 something foot enclosed trailer which contained a workshop with two anvils, a forge, gas bottle etc.with a Ram 1500 with a payload under 1200 pounds! Who knows how much he was overloaded.

That is a FANTASTIC link. Thank you so much. Here in Indiana, most internet salespeople have NO idea what the yellow sticker is, and it's like pulling teeth to get the information. Ya, I'm active on a RV Forum always helping the newbies out, some argue, some appreciate, some still buy too little truck and regret. I want to get enough truck, but don't pull camper extensively. If possible, pull up the window sticker of that F250. I test drove several F250’s.
What i found was that as long as the truck didn’t have the Camper Package or the Heavy Service Front Suspension package...then the ride was really nice. If it had either of those packages....the ride sucked for a DD.
So, if the one you drive had either package, test drive one that doesn’t have either package. It’s noticeable.
I needed a decent payload, so I’m trading my F150 in on a Super Duty. If you don’t want a Super Duty, then maybe haul the beer, burgers and wood in the trailer.
Paul, I applaud you for doing research ahead of time. You'd be amazed at the number of folks justifying being well over weight, adding airbags, changing suspension, upgrading gear ratio - Then get upset when they find out NONE of that changes the factory GVWR. Aside from jettisoning factory equipment to get curb weight down, there is nothing that can be done to increase factory payload.
All the brands market their highest possible payload numbers, bragging about "best in class" - the issue is that to get those numbers you need a unicorn configuration with no creature comforts that 99% of the time dealers do not keep in stock.

Best idea yet, sounds like you have it all figured out! Or maybe you could just ride in the trailer with the beer, lots of beer and let the wife drive! Lol!
In all seriousness you could at least put the coolers in the trailer directly over the axels and that should get enough weight off the truck to get you where you need to be. 1600-1700lb payload must be pretty standard for most Lariat’s out there. Our new 19’ with a sun roof and pretty well equipped 502A max tow crew cab 6.5’ box says 1607lbs. Our 16’ which was very similarly equipped was around 1650.
My 18 502a lariet se with panoramic, tech pkg, power power steps, side box steps, box extender, tailgate step and stripper pole and mttp only has a 1350ish payload. So watch your bells and whistles.
