Ok I am alittle lost on finishing the install of my 1991 4.0L Explorer engine. The oxygen sensor is located in exhaust pipe and has about a two foot length of wire to a white round connector. My problem is I don't seem to have anything within two feet to connect it to. Am I missing an "extenstion" cord or something? I have a similar red round connector located close to the battery that is not connected to anything.
Also, there are two vacuum line fittings on the breather. To what do I connect them.
Gosh this is embarrassing. What is it they say, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool rather than to speak out and remove all doubt."
Also is there any place that sells interior door panels for the older Explorers like mine?
vsit your local junkyard...i have found some good working parts there, but yes the o2 sensor wire does need to be longer i believe, depends on what one you are referring to, my 94 has 3 of them i think thats how many u have...
if you extend the wires, I recommend you try to find the weatherpack connectors to fit the harness plug and the o2 sensor connector and make a true extension. If you cannot find those then try to lengthen on the harness side of the connector. That way if you need to swap o2 sensors in the future it is just plug and play and it is said that the background feed is via the wires on the o2 side of the plug so you don't want to be cutting and melting the insulation to screw up that reference signal.
O2 sensor wires (Only one O2 sensor on '91-'92 Explorers) typically come down between the engine and firewall and is not often easy to get to. Been a couple months since I did mine, but two feet of wire on the O2 sensor sounds about right. Unless someone's done something funny, look above the O2 sensor between the engine and firewall near the bellhousing.
Depending on options, sometimes the fittings on the vacuum tree are capped off. My '92 has one that's capped. If all of the vacuumm controlled components are hooked up, you may just need to cap the extra fittings.
Your were right-on with the location of the oxygen connector! Just looked between firewall and bell housing and there it was. Can it get any better than this. I say it cannot.
Any thoughts on what the one remaining red round make connector (4 pin) is for?
