When I hit the brakes just hard enough not to actually stop the truck, I get a rather loud clunk from my driver side front tire. Best I can figure is that the shoes are adjusted in too far and the pressure from the pedal kicks it out enough to clunk. I am going to pull it apart tomorrow, and have a look-see. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experiance with this type problem. The PO rebuilt the brakes-(rebuilt cylinders, new springs, etc) and put on new brake shoes about a year ago.
Clunks are usually not brakes unless you have rotors and the keys are worn. I would look at worn radius arm bushings, shocks, or the track arm. Bad ball joints too, though with those you would most likely have really vague steering if they were far enough gone to clunk.
I had that noise once. Turned out to be worn out rubber bushings on tracking arms (?). Braces that run from frame to front axle. (4X4) Hitting brakes would shift axle to rear and bottom out bushings.
It is 2x4, i was just saying that it doesnt do it when it "nose dives" from the engine braking, it doesnt make the noise. I am 93.745532% sure its in my brakes. I'll pull them off tomorrow and look for sure. It stops straight most of the time, but will ****** to the left a little if you slam the brakes really quick.
