I have a Fabex pin box on my fifth wheel and after a little back and forth with Reese we determined the pre-drilled holes in the Goosebox will line up with the Fabex. The two different Reese techs I talked to were very knowledgeable and helpful.
I use the Goose Box and BakFlip MX4 also and like the combo. It did take a few times to get it lined up correctly, but now I know how far the hitch disappears for me to be close.
My airbag has been around 47-48, but I’ve read several places that say around 40 is a sweet spot. I’ve been trying to get the bar lined up almost dead center in the sight hole.
Shotgun and Sunnyside, do you guys have the updated gen 2 version of the Goosebox? It appears to me it might be a little more user friendly. I have an AirLift Wireless One remote controlled compressor already mounted on my truck which I used with my Trailer Saver. It will give me the ability to adjust on the fly.
FishRanger, Could you post pictures of your setup when you are finished with the Goose Box 2 install? I like the idea of adjusting air pressure on the fly. This may be a future project for me.

Hey FishRanger, I've got the Gen2 Goosebox. The setup/config is essentially no different than the gen1, but with a few enhancements and slight improvements.
Engineering an on-the-fly adjustment is probably a bit more than the Goosebox really requires. I literally just check the pressure prior to hitching (2-3 minutes tops), then hitch and go. Additionally, the air inlet requires not just a hose connection but to be physically pushed in as well. I'm an engineer myself, so anything worth engineering is worth over-engineering. However, I'd invest your time outside the Goosebox.

Same here. I have the Gen 2 Goose Box. Has a better level/sight hole and also a hitch lock.
You may also want a large-ish carabiner to clip your break-away cable to the safety chain anchor.
Lastly, you've probably already got it, but you'll want some high-temp grease for the gooseball. I use the same red stuff on my bearings as the gooseball.
Put a set of these on the other end of your safety chains and you won't have to reach over the side of your bed to hook up, you can do it from the tailgate end:
I did run slightly lower pressure a few months ago, 42-45, but bumped it up to the current 48-49. Now, I’m seeing that lowering it may be even better, as opposed to going up as I did.
Hey guys, I am leaning strongly towards Gen 2 Goose Box. I never towed before, so I assume I need to buy following items:
.
I have the AUH and would go with Goosebox. In fact I’m surprised I haven’t switched already. Warranty in-tact, air ride protects the rig and contents, free bed when not in use, on and on. Too many ways that the AUH could fail as opposed to a simple ball rated way higher then your needs. Good luck!
Great suggestions for the add ons. I found the Goosebox for $1312 on Amazon but not sure how to post the link. Also, Camping World has it for $1309 with a 15% off code thru the 19th. They tack on an extra $75 for shipping but still a little better price. An Ebay seller has it for $1269 and free shipping. I did verify thru the Ebay seller that they stock the gen 2 version. I called CW and they could not tell whether or not it was. Their picture is of the first version. I plan to order by Friday.
Thanks guys for your replies, really appreciate it! Just learned something new - I had no idea the ball is height adjustable, I thought they are all the same. I am almost afraid to ask more questions, as they must come across as totally stupid to those of you that have towed for decades. I will try anyway as this forum has been invaluable to me in selecting and buying my new truck.
The 5th wheel we are planning to buy is Grand Design 337RLS. We are shopping used ones, but will buy new if we cannot find what we want. It's 35 feet long and 14K lbs fully loaded. I confirmed with GD that GB will not void their warranty. My truck is 2019 F350 STX CCLB SRW with factory puck system. I know this truck sits high, higher even than above mentioned F450. Given that, and to keep the recommended bed rail clearance, is the B&W ball still recommended, or is there even taller ball I would need to purchase?
Also, do these ***** come with some sort of lock when installed in the bed to prevent theft?

Thanks for your patience!
You'll need to balance bed clearance and overall height of your camper.
As you raise the rig up to provide bed rail clearance, you need to check what your overall height is.
In my case, the best I could achieve is 6.5" bed rail clearance and I am right at the legal limit of 13' 6".
Unfortunately, because of the tailgate "spoiler", you lose an inch there, so I have 5.5" of clearance at the tailgate.
I haven't run into issues where the rails hit the rig, but I'd like another inch to be comfortable.
Depending on your pinbox wings, you can mix and match the installed height of the Goose Box by choosing different sets of bolt holes, and then couple that with different height goose ball to dial it in. Goose ***** are fixed height, not adjustable.
The Reese standard height ball was too low for me, so I stayed with the B&W.
Also beware that unless you can get the rig much higher off the bed rails, you may run into interference issues as you approach 90 degrees. I can't go full 90 degrees without my Goose Box hitting the bed rail covers. Another reason I would have liked to ride higher.
Also, avoid running the camper too much "nose high" as that can accelerate rear tire wear and drive their operating temp up, possibly exposing them to blowout. A TPMS system is highly recommended to keep tabs on them, anyway.
No lock on the *****. When I didn't have a tonneau to lower when uncoupled, I removed the ball. That would have been a show stopper if stolen.
