A generic Paxil is now available. I switched to it. You say that you felt kind of drunk? I believe that your dose was too high.
Greywolf-
I agree with you about the whole "change your mind" argument, but it's not that simple. Some people, like myself, need the meds to allow them to start to change. I am going to get a little personal now, because I have a strong belief that there are many men who suffer from the same problems as me, but like me their male pride won't allow them to admit it. In my case, I had absolutely no reasons to feel the way I did. When I finally admitted that something was really wrong, I went to the doctor. He gave me a series of written tests, which are a huge help in diagnosing these problems. The diagnosis- Slight clinical depression and adult ADD. I don't agree with the term "Clinical Depression" in all cases. I was not depressed about anything. Guys, this is a serious illness, caused COMPLETELY by a chemical imbalance in the brain. You can't fix it or control it on your own. Do some research, look at the various symptoms. There are tests online to help you figure out what's troubling you.
I had a terrible anxiety attack a few weeks ago. I was completely out of control. What was the cause? The cause was a reaction between my anti-depressant and an anti-biotic. I was up the entire night and had to go into work and teach 185 kids science the next day.
I agree that you need to change root problems in your life. Seeing a psychiatrist can help you alot with strategies you can use to help yourself. Medication is not the entire answer.
The biggest thing I try to do is take plenty of time for myself and my family. They are the ones who make life worth living.
http://www.sleepnet.com Don't take drugs or alcohol!!! St.Johns' wort is a natural "relaxer" with no side affects. There are many herbal products on the market suited to reduceing anxiety and/or improving sleep quality. Valerian & Muskroot are two names that you can punch into a search engine to educate yourself on the subject. You will find that certain products are a combination of herbs collectively suited to your particular needs. Muskroot is a form of diaretic(blood-thinner). Valerian may leave you a little slow-thinking in the morning. Consult an Herbalist AND your family doctor. My personal symptoms are always elevated by lack of quality sleep. Insomnia is one of North Americas' leading disorders! The afflicted are in the millions! P.S. Doesn't it take a bigger man to deal with his problem than to just deny it?

St. John's Wort works on me for two days and then on the third day I get a massive depressive "crash" -- can't get out of bed, try to quit my job, etc. No more for me, thanks.
St. Johns wort is also a very nice laxative. Sort of like the intestinal purges of old. Helps your depression if you always have a throne near. Not a good plan for bus drivers ...

. That's the thing about seeing your doctor and a herbalist, no two people are alike. I am fortunate that St.Johns' wort works for me to a limited degree. My life often takes real crappy turns & sometimes it takes me weeks to stabilize. I have 2 kids that give my life meaning & that is what keeps me going. Without them as a motivating factor, I shudder to think how things might go. Take a good look at your "quality" of sleep & see if there's any way to improve it. Simple things like a big supper or a Coke late in the day will usually have an affect on how well you sleep!
