I'm a young one here (under 35) and those are civil defense markers that predate the emergency broadcast technology of today. In the event of a national disaster (think nuclear), you simply would tune to the triangle to get emergency information. I believe they were in use in the late 50's through the early 60's.

bmoran is correct.

If I recall correctly the triangles marked the tuned radio frequenices of 640 and 1240 Kilocycles now know as Kilohertz. It was known back then as the CONELRAD system. CONELRAD meaning Control Electromagnetic Radiation. I worked at a radio station where someone back in the day built a glass covered, wooden box with a tape you were supposed to play if there was a national CONELRAD emergency. On the glass was a note saying, "In the event of emergency break glass, unless the tape is melted".

Maybe Canada didn't use that logo. Or your younger than I thought, John.

The basement of my high school was a fallout shelter which doubled as the rifle range for our schools varsity rifle team, which you don't see nowadays. It was stocked with water and nonperishable foods. But there's no way all the students could have fit in there.

That ended up in the wrong place. Could a Administrator please move it until I figure out how to do it myself.
