Chuck,
It should be stamped on the case of the alternator. Did you buy this truck new? If not someone could have put a kit in it for more amperage also. Look at the case. There are "winding plates " that divide the two halfs of the case. How thick is the plates? The greater the thickness of the plates the higher the amperage of the unit is,usually. Best bet is to have it tested.
Hope that helps ya a little!
I bought the truck a few months ago. I will be pulling a travel trailer with it, and I have a dump trailer with brakes on both axeles, as well as a battery on the trailer that charges from the towing truck. Not to mention lights and stuff. The case is scratched up and I can't quite make out the numbers on it. The winding plate area is not quite a inch wide. It's about finger middle finger width. Don't have a tape handy. The numbers look as if they could read 60?? If that is all it is I plan on kitting it to at least 105. I think that is the largest that will fit in this case. What did your/ these trucks come stock with? Do you know? I'm guessing everything was stock when I got it. Not any longer!! the 460 will be pretty strong!!! Fog lamps, utility lamps towards bed, MSD box, and still has ac that I will refurbish. I take the rotating assembly to be balanced wed, so i want to get all my stuff ready to put the engine back in the truck. I'm just waiting for my LUK clutch to get here in the mail.
Thanks for you input.

I brought a 134 amp Alt for mine...it does keep everything charged...and I have three battery's The regular battery and then a Marine Battery for key machine and other related 120 v AC mixed with two 200 amp thumpers, lights everywhere inside and still plenty of wattage for a spare smaller 350 amp battery, just in case I need it...no dim lights after the engine is turned off, and can usually run the lights for 5 hours without a charge....
According to the parts store your truck could have come with a 60,65,70, or 100 amp alt. Mine came with a 60 amp alt. I bought a Iceberg conversion and switched it to 105 amp. I run dual optima batts. Winter I use a plow and summer its 5th wheel and winch.
I haven't had any problems as of yet!
Sounds like you probably have the 60 amp also.
Have a good one!
Thanks 84,
I'm betting that's what it says on the case, it's just hard to read. I've seen a place to pick-up a kit for about 29 or 39.00 to make it a 105. That's what I'll do. I just need to start getting home before the wife does so she don't see anymore parts showing up on delivered to the back door!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 78 Ext Cab short bed, with the 460, that I'm driving right now. That's the excuse I used when I bought the 86 with 4 wheel drive and the long bed!!!!!!!!!!! I think I'm wearing it thin. She says the 78 has to go after I get the 86 built. After out second baby (she's 4 month now) she said either the 66 Stang, or 93 Ptobe GT had to go because i bought a 94 Roadmaster for the family car. She knows the Stang will be ripped from my cold dead fingers, so the Probe is for sale now. What a fun car!!
I'll check with Checker, or maybe ours is a O'rielly now? I'll check anyway, thanks!
