I put a pioneer double din in my 2000 excursion but I didn't use an install kit. I just trimmed the lips on the inside of the dash. It fits in very snug. It does have a little bit of a gap( like maybe a sixteenth of an inch) but I don't even notice it. Everything works and it does not move at all. I can post pictures if you want. Let me know.

I went and jumpered wires around and tested. The parking brake does just go straight to ground so a bypass relay is needed

OP, my Alpine ILX-107 sits just like yours does in the original photo. I too am using that same Metra kit and couldn’t get it to move fwd at all. I however don’t mind it as my HU doesn’t have any buttons that are obstructed; actually I kind of like having the lip on the bottom to rest my fingers on while I adjust the radio.
