You can also run through the activation process with the 754 module stuff if you want but I don't think it's needed. I read of some f150 guy taking 8 days for activation!
I messaged the seller of the unit I got for the VIN. He told me this unit is brand new never installed before. This must be my issue why it's not activating properly. Will this work or do I need to replace it?

So after the seller of my 14G229 module informing me that my module was brand new and not from a used truck, the wind was taken from my sails and I figured that I needed to start over. So I searched eBay and found a 14G087 module. There were no 14G229 modules to be found. So I placed the order for it. Anticipating starting the process over in a week or so. However, much to my surprise, this morning I checked the Ford Pass app on my iPhone. It said “Activate” on the screen! I could hardly believe it so I grabbed my keys and went out, hit the activate button and it popped up on the truck screen to OK it. Sure enough, it activated. It took a minute for the app to refresh with all the new buttons. I force closed the app and when it opened back up the lock/unlock and start/stop was now on the home screen. All of the other buttons are on the vehicle details screen. Fuel level, location, tire pressure, scheduled starts, odometer. Oil life is on there but it has two dashed lines on it. Maybe it’ll take a little time to acquire the data from the truck since I haven’t driven it since it activated? I’m extremely pleased and happy about this. I can’t thank you guys enough. Especially brandon86305 for posting his directions on here. They worked exactly as you stated. This should definitely be added to the FORScan spreadsheets. It is valid. Like it’s been said, the most difficult part of this upgrade was the waiting period after the install and the programming. Now I just have to cancel the order on eBay for the second module that I ordered. Hopefully I caught him before he took it to the post office.

Another shoutout to Anibal and brandon83605

Here are a couple of my posts over on the f150forum.
https://www.f150forum.com/f118/sync-...8/#post6525901 and
https://www.f150forum.com/f118/sync-...8/#post6525971 describing my FordPass Connect journey.
I just wanted to thank Anibal and brandon83605 for taking the lead on the Super Duty diesels. Everything went pretty much exactly as they said. I couldn't have done it without you!

If the oil life doesn't populate on your app, you might want to try what Anibal suggested over on the f150forum

https://www.f150forum.com/f118/sync-...2/#post6452990

I launched the FordPass app on the apps tab on my sync 3, and the oil life came right up on my phone app. Hope this helps.

I’ll try that out this evening when I get off work. I’m just happy that the process ended up working. Thank you for posting this to each one on this forum and the F-150 forum as well. This is one of the best upgrades I could think of for any vehicle that didn’t come factory with it.

Glad to hear it's working! So I guess we now know that you can use brand new TCU modules without prior activation! The only thing I wonder about is activating the hotspot with ATT. If you connect with a device to the hotspot it will show the VIN the TCU has been hard coded to for ATT. I am curious what yours says since the module was new and if it is even possible to activate the hotspot on a new module. Hopefully all of our experiences help others do this!

I was also curious about this. My trucks sync screen shows I'm getting a great signal from LTE towers. It is broadcasting a network name and has a password in it. My phone sees the network and I connected to it. However, it wasn't a "live" connection. So I went to myvehicle.att.com and entered my VIN and it says the VIN is not found. Oh well. Not a big deal for me. We have seven iPhones in my family and all have unlimited data and hotspots. I would like to try and figure this out though. I would also like to figure out how to ground the two bingfu antennas so I can clear the DTC's. I don't want to have to tear into the headliner nor do I want to drill a larger hole for the factory style roof mount antenna to fit. Any other ideas? Run a splitter off each antenna connection and then somehow run each one to each antenna and to the cab wall with an adapter of some sort? The connector ends are called Fakra Z. If there was some sort of adapter to go from this to a ground wire loop.

Is there a factory antenna wiring harness that has a "ground" wire? Or does it ground through the factory antenna base or something?

The 2 Ford OEM antennas don't have a ground wire, they just bolt to the truck body which grounds them (even though it is aluminum).

Here's a pic (from ebay) that shows the mounting hole for the bolt on the PIFA antenna that connects to the TCU. HL3T-19K351-AA is Ford's engineering #. The part # if you wanted to order it is HL3Z-19A390-A. The shark fin antenna on the roof of the truck is also grounded when it's bolted to the roof.

Hope this helps

I wonder if I could just get two of those PIFA antennas. One for the TCU Sync Fordpass antenna port, and one for the wifi hotspot antenna port and mount them both to the back wall with M6 clips and bolts? This should correct the "ground" DTC. It may not be an ideal location for the wifi hotspot antenna to get optimal signal strength but that isn't a huge issue. Especially since I can't seem to active the hotspot portion of the TCU just yet. I do understand that I would need to have separation between the two antennas. I'd also need the factory cables for them. I think I'm going to try this and see what the result is. ---- Or is the PIFA antenna specifically designed for only the TCU and won't work for the hotspot?

Yes that will work or you can shave off the outer jacket on the bingfu antenna wire and solder a wire to the braided outer cable and then ground it. When you connect with a device to the hotspot it should momentarily show a VIN right before it redirects you to ATT like the attached pic.

Soldering a wire to the outer metal jacket of the bingfu antenna wire might just work. As long as I can open the insulation up without damaging the wire. I'll give this a try. And I can just use a ring terminal on the end and mount it under one of the M6 clip and screw for the TCU to create the ground. I'll try this in a few days and report back. The antenna wire should be similar to a cable coax wire. So under the insulation is a wire jacket and then another insulator protecting the center conductor. Makes sense.

From: Weatherford Texas.
I have another box mounted where the TCU mounts, I wonder what it is for.
Edit: Center Console Control Module

Did anyone figure out if a new TCU can be activated with AT&T? Mine works fine with Ford pass and remote monitoring.
