Aftermarket cruise controls tap into the vss without any bad results. I do know some of the Ford vss setups went to the PSOM module first, where the signal was changed, conditioned, or something, and then it was distributed to the cruise, ABS and various other things on the truck (engine computer also).
Thanks Dave.
Right now it's a bit of a mess with the speedometer cable, factory vss, and gvod sensor. The GVOD jumper is too long so the entire cable is spilling out everywhere.
My thought is:
1. Remove the existing mechanical speedometer including the GVOD sensor and wiring
2. Install an 8ppm sensor in the GVOD
3. Create an adapter and plug this into the factory cruise control wiring (2 wire)
4. Up near the brake booster where the factory cruise control connector is, create a removable splitter/jumper
5. This jumper will branch off into two additional pairs: one for the GVOD unit and one for the electrical to mechanical speedo box
The jumper will be made from taking a spare male/female factory cruise control connector and flipping them.
What is your factory vss for? Just the cruise on the old 1986? If it is, is this the one that is inserted inline on the speedo cable? Or is it one that plugs into the rearend pumpkin? Do you have rear ABS?
Yes, just cruise on the 86 and correct - it is the one that is inline with the speedo cable.
No on the rearend and no on the ABS.
I am not really wanting to do the electrical to mechanical speedo option first I will just see about consolidating the gear vendors into the factory vss.
