I am not a fan of them because of the image they portray. On the other hand, isn't about every new 4x4 available with too much crap, no matter what make? Who really need heated leather seats in their 4x4? Amazingly, all the 4x4s I have owned have made it up the trail without this option! As a side note, If I had 50-70K to spend, I would have the most awesome 1974 ford f250 the world has ever seen, not an H2
I think in general trucks are to luxiours these days, if i wanted something fancy, I'd buy a car. The H2 is a waste of money in my mind too much plastic on them.
I have got to agree with you. And that is my point. Whether it is the H2, a montero sport, expedition, duramax diesel... the point is there is too much crap in them. I bought a 93 chevy new, fairly loaded. The only thing it didn't have was power windows and locks and the optional cd player. I just traded it in on a new tacoma. This was a "stripped" version, and it had everything but those items and cruise. I added a cd player and cruise. Now it is perfect. It hauls me around just fine, and gets 20+ mpg doing it. To each his own, but a truck is for working, no matter what that means to you, and not just taking up space on the road. If you want a car, buy a car. Just some thoughts, Ted
H2s are just a marketing gimmick, they are less capable than the humvee they were designed with standard axles and do not handle as well at the speeds the humvee with its fully independent suspension can over really rough terrain, they have no more ground (axle) clearance than an average 4X4.
They were designed to be cheaper to build and more comfortable than the humvee, The humvee is available in some heavy duty models including one that is rated at 2.5 Ton capacity. I had to drive a humvee, the 1 1/4 ton model, from Arizona to Texas once and being a big guy I got tired of the seat and that little nintendo steering wheel long before we left the state.
Here's the place I'm talking about - the used H1s that are available look to be in decent condition.
I'm guessing that although most people think it's cool, it's probably pretty hard to sell one of those things - people don't like unfamiliar things.
MustangGT221 - I see your point, but when you think about it, a used H2 is still the same crappy Tahoe derivative it was when it was new. At least a used H1 is still an H1
XXL
Once the H2 has been out for a while, used ones will be much cheaper than any H1. Why do you guys let this bother you so much? The H2 is a high end SUV, I don't see you guys knocking high end cars, you don't need all that crap to haul ur butt around either. The H2 was made to be less than the H1, because frankly the H1 was terrible to drive on the street. I think it's a very nice truck, and until you've been in one or driven one like I have, quiet. They have sold a crap load of them, so they must be doing something right. They are very capable, and they are not just a tahoe with a new body. You say who would go off road in a 60k dollar SUV, well who would go off road in a 100k H1 (there are lots of people doing it by the way)? If you compair an old used H1 your compairing apples and oranges. The H2 has very good approad and departure angles, it has a locker in it, and 35" tires stock with 4.10 gears. It is much more capable then just about any other production SUV out there.

I have a friend who is a service writer at a local Hummer dealership. I've driven 2 of them that he's brought home; they suck.
Even he says they're one of the crappiest vehicles ever thrown together.
I'd rather pay for an H1 and know I'm getting something than shell out the duckets for an H2 and be embarrassed when I run over a newspaper and have to winch myself out.
With all due respect, if I'm comparing apples and oranges here, then why do these two vehicles share the same name?
At any rate, Teds74Ford is right on the money - these things are getting too bloated. The H2 is so absurd that it makes me sad
I live in Manhattan Kansas and there is only one H2 in town that I am aware of. Its black and always parked at the mall taking up TWO parking spaces so he/she won't get door dings. Twice I have seen the same Ford Festiva squeeze into one of the half spaces leaving about an inch or two between it the the precious H2. Laughed my butt off.
Has anyone seen the spy photos of the H3 yet? I think it's gonna be on the little trailblazer platform and be more affordable than the H2 for people who want the look but can't afford the H2.

I just looked them up - it'll probably change 100 times before then, but it should probably be boxier if it's going to be in the Hummer family. Right now it looks like a vehicle for a new "Mad Max" movie...
The only reason the h2 has sold so well is because of the rappers buying them like hot cakes it's just a fad. remember when the navigator was tha style? those were the good ol day's. The dumbest thing is a young rapper with too much money and a jap import catolog
