front auto hubs don't lock
Got stuck the other day in soft sand in my '95 351 and proceeded to dig myself a hole with the rear wheel. The 4-wh drive was engaged, but I dug myself a little deeper because the front hub(s) would not lock in (automatically). The front wheel was not even trying to rotate. Had to get pulled out by a Fd. Ranger. I know the 4-wh drive was engaged, because when I got back on the highway, you could hear all the hardware turning, before I disengaged it.
What actually is the point of failure? My manuals show no detail of the 4-wh. drive system, especially in the front end, nor any automatic hub detail or actuating system.
