Hi everyone,
So I have read alot on this forum about coolant and it seems there is a vast majority of folks that use Cat Ec1 rated coolant. On that same note from what I've read Zerex G05 is supposed to be the same as Ford gold and doesn't meet The Cat EC-1 rating. So I was surprised to see that according to the bottle it meets or exceeds Cat EC-1 and others.
Have I just been confused all of this time or did Valvoline change the Zerex formula?
I run CAT exclusively in my own equipment, but the Zerex product does meet the Ford spec. There are quite a few Powerstrokes out there still running around with green plus additives and I always convert these over to Ford Gold as the CAT products are prohibitively priced and customers would be shocked to see the numbers.
All I'll add is try to maintain a single chemistry in your cooling system - flush with both block plugs out, radiator drain open and push water thru the heater core................if the flush is accomplished with (hard) well water, follow up with two flushings using distilled water. Once "baselined", stay with that chemistry............
Rotella or CAT ELC is all that goes in my truck. Chemistry
I'm partial to the Chevron Delo ELC chemistry. 10 years or 1 million miles when the extender is used. I hit the 10 year mark in my Excursion a few years back and had to flush and refill.
To the OP, the Zerex G-01 previously did not meet the Cat EC-1 rating. It does now.

If I could keep the engine off the stand that long it would be very nice!
