Still thinking about Utah in September? I would like to do both. I can either ride along with someone with a 4x4 on a trailer and pay travel costs (fuel, lodging) or ride or drive (my car gets 35mpg) and split costs (gas, lodging, 4x4 rental). I need to stay at lower elevations.
Oh yeah!! I temporarily forgot I told you I would go back there with you this year. I think my truck should be up for the challenge or at least I hope so (for pulling the Jeep out again)
If I commit to going back to Utah, I would like to get some more rigs on the trip, so that we can finish the northern portion of the Hole in the Rock. Its a long way to go, to not finish it up. Then once that is complete, we could knock out some Colorado trails. Lets do some more talking on this.
Not sure I am clear on the section(s) we are talking about. There are 2 sections we have not done together. One is the section we have tried twice that is south of Halls Crossing that is very difficult ending at Cottonwood Hill with a great view across Lake Powell of the Hole In The Rock.. The other is on the west side of Lake Powell where the real Hole In The Rock is that can be done with your PU.
I do have gps files of the Hole In The Rock trail. Everything from the original route to the changes in the 4x4 route over the last 30 or so years. Some of the original route is hiking or even under Lake Powell. Just depends on if folks want to hike and see as much of the original route as possible.
I'm a more of a technical trail kind of person, Someone could tell me "Yep this is the trail!" and I would be inclined to believe them and go about my business. I would like to do the difficult portion of the trail, but I don't feel inclined to do a bunch of hiking, at least not today.
I would be glad to have ya come along! There is only one section in Utah that I really want to finish up, and I kind of want to hike up to Jailhouse ruins in Arch Canyon, ( I realize I said I didn't want to hike in an earlier post) then I would like to knock out some more Colorado trails for the rest of the trip.
Not really interested in Utah this year- but I am interested in Colorado. I would like to finish holy cross. but not till August when Calista is out of school.
Probably- I'm only allowed 1 big trip this year- and only 10 nights of overnight trips that involve hotel/cabin/campground fees-- I get 10 nights at roughly 100 dollars each (average) and a week long trip. Not to exceed 2 grand all year. We are limiting funds to add onto the house and get concrete work done. I really have my sites set on Holy cross, and the offroad park in Nebraska- (mainly so I can deliver parts- and get paid)

I'm in the same boat
We are driving to the west coast on a two-week trip this summer and staying in our pop-up to save a bunch on lodging. We will be driving through Colorado and Utah to see the Arches NP and Great Basin NP, but I'm sure we won't see nearly as cool of views as you guys. Maybe some year I can get a JT for pulling the pop-up to allow for wheeling AND family vacations
