Trying to ID my front springs. 2004 F350 CCLB. I've been reading about the X-code springs, but the pics don't match what I have. I seem to have a healthy size add-a-leave up front. Truck sits almost level. 285//75/16s easily clear. Bought it this way and always thought it was a factory setup, but maybe not?
You have V code front springs with an add a leaf. As far as what rides or works best I can’t help there but you have a fair amount of room.
Thanks for the reply. She definitely rides like a one ton, but it's not awful. I think next set of meats will be 35s/315s and some aftermarket wheels. Seems like I have plenty of room.
Thanks! Been lurking around here for a while here and there. Not sure that I want to replace them just yet. I think I'll stuff some bigger tires at the current height. Kinda like that is has an add a leaf. might get an aftermarket bumper or a plow...
Actually the base front spring was (I forget the letter) 4,400lb spring THATS WHIMPY! The V code was standard on the 7.3 trucks and was optioned on other trucks. Then u had the W code and the big daddy X code spring. I had the add-a-leaf on my 04 and HATED IT was gonna go with X codes because of all the information in the Excursion section and from people here, BUT I wanted slightly more so I went with pro comp 22210 2.5" level springs. I couldn't be happier now, ride is really really good and my height has held for years now with no sag other than initial settlement

that's awesome, thanks! Did you lift the rear too, or did those level it out?
I bet someone switched to a F450/F550 spring. Add a leaf springs aren’t usually that long. I’ve never seen F250/350 with three spring pack or a overload that’s that long.
I put a set of X codes from Deaver springs. Ride was a lot better

F-450/550 also only had 2 leaves, even the heavy W codes and heavier yet X codes. Remember that the actual letter designations are for Ford springs only, aftermarket springs advertised as the various letter codes are usually only close to the factory ratings, not typically equal to them.
I put Deaver X codes (rated) and they not only made the ride better they also lifted the truck up. These were 2 leaf type. I've seen F450/550 with three leaves. These were commercial type vehicles on jobsites. The leaves on those trucks looked factory not aftermarket add on type. Maybe they were add on springs but usually add on springs are shorter.
I ordered a set of X codes from Sd springs and I didn’t care for them. In the center where the locating pin and u bolts would sit the springs narrowed down in that section which I didn’t care for and the guy from Deaver springs really saw as strange. Deaver Springs is a well known spring manufacturer. The cost difference was minimal between the two springs so I went with the Deaver version and sold the SD spring X codes.
