Replacement Bump Stops

My bump stops are all missing, well the rubber parts anyway...

What is the best replacement? There is the square style "Super Duty" bump stop for the front (F81Z-3020-DA), or the round "Excursion" style (2C7Z-3020-AA). Which is better? Does it matter?

Are there any choices for the rear? 1C3Z-4730-AA seems to be listed for all year Excursions.

My truck is all stock with minimally (if any) sagging of the original springs if that matters (23" front, 25" rear).

My Bad !
Before the Sumo Springs I had Polyurethane bump stops made by Moog, part #4.9103.

They worked very well. Still look like brand new after 4 years on the front of my Ex.

My rear stops are missing as well, so I looked and found these:

$22.79 for the rear in the cart, add shipping
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...ion,bumper,789

$12.90 in the cart, add shipping or free W/Prime
Amazon Amazon

I have heard that the polyurethane bump stops can be harsh, I know the Ex is pretty limited in up travel, I think I would rather go with a factory rubber part.

After many replacements over the years, I went with Timbren. similar to the sumo springs.

remember that on your stock short travel front suspension the bumps are a active part of your usable travel and are a critical component they engage in the last 3rd of travel.

so my “best”. list
1. air bumps.
2. factory motorcraft
3. dorman oem type replacment.

worst possible
1. any polyurethane
2. not having any

fwiw... timbrens would likely be on my list but i have never personally used them so cant comment.

My front are still in place and look good. The rear ones are both missing. W/O towing I have 7" from top of the axle to frame on the rear. When I tow my 7k car trailer, I use W/D, so even though

there is a drop at the rear, the W/D helps keep it up a little and helps to reduce rear end drop compared to not having W/D.

Still, I'm going to replace the missing ones with something.

So which style factory bump stop is better, the square "F-250" style:

(I know this one is poly, can't find a pic of the factory rubber version)

or the "Excursion" style:

???

The excursion style is a better design for a stock height excursion suspension, the taper allows the initial spring rate to be lower and progressively gets higher the more you compress it. remember a stock height excursion actively uses the bump as part of the travel.

the F250 one is meant as a absoulute stop rather then metal to metal contact since the F250 has more wheel travel and to actually compress it to the point of contact you are pretty much in a "oh ****" situation as it is.

It will happen again, but they're pretty cheap in the scheme of things.

I have the square style Ford ones on the front of my Excursion. They are definitely better than nothing at all, but they do hit pretty hard. I will probably try the cone type when they need to be replaced.

I just replaced mine with the Excursion style from dorman I think, from amazon. I researched for about a week trying to find the best option. I often use my Excursion like its a race car. ha ha really just powering hard in the turns. I like the slight seat and gradual flex of the stock ones you can feel when its touching them. the Poly-anything, just seems to be harsher. just my $.02

Thanks for all the input guys, I'll be going with the stock stuff for now, looks like the best option for sure.
