Slight hesitation/miss when accelerating from stop

I recently bought this 2001 Ford Ranger, which I like a lot. It has the V6, 4L engine. It runs very smooth at idle and at normal driving, but has a slight "hiccup" when starting from a dead stop under normal acceleration. The truck had this problem when I bought it (it has about 66000 miles), and the Check Engine light was on. The dealer fixed the check engine light by replacing the DPFE valve, which I assumed would take care of this slight hesitation. The Check Engine light no longer stays on, but the hesitation is still there. Does anyone have any suggestions, short of taking the truck back to the dealer and running another full diagnostic, which will undoubtedly cost about $70 or more. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
GC

you may have bad gas in the tank or water mixed with the gas or you may have vapor lock. take off the gas cap off and put it back on again and see if it will do it again..just a thought

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I've gone through a number of tanks of gas and it still does it.

I'll try it. Thanks for the suggestion. BTW, do you recommend OEM plug wires, or are aftermarket wires okay?
Thanks.
