Automatic Trans Filter
Hi all, I just bought a 1990 F250 4x4 351 and I was wandering if any one has had thier Automatic Trans filter changed/Cleaned? The trans runs great but I wanted to check it. The truck has 122,500 miles on it and runs clean. No oil burning at all. By the way, the 1st tank I got 8.5mpg. Any Advice? I love this truck! Thanks

Larry, welcome to the boards, If it has a three speed trans (no overdrive) then it is a C6 Just pull the pan and change it. 8.5 sounds pretty reasonable to me with a 3/4 ton and a 351 auto. they don't get real good gas mileage but they run forever.

Automatic Trans Filter
I got the trans pan off and changed the filter. Then I discovered 2 of the pan bolts had striped the the threads in the trans. I guess i am lucky they are not next to each other. At first I thought the trans pan gasket needed to be replaced. I have a tap set. Is this the what I should do?

Run a tap through and check how deep the hole is compared to the
bolt you are using. If you could find a bolt just a little longer than the original, it might catch some good threads farther up the hole.
