I noticed today that I have a small chip/crack in my dash. No clue how it would have got there, anyone seen something like this? I'm not sure if it will spread and get worse? Doesn't look like it took an impact from anything. It still under warranty, but I hate the thought of someone replacing it and ending up with it worse? Hmmm... What are you guys thoughts?
Can’t see it real well but, it looks like more of a gouge than it is a crack. “If” that’s the case, you may be able to sand or buff it out without altering the shape too much...hate if it’s a crack - that would be strange. I have gouges in my armrest that drive me nuts. A good interior shop might be able to help.
Really looks like a crack to me, and right on the curve, maybe it got hung up in the mold a little on its way out and tore while it was still hot, Assuming it’s injection molded.
Use a black/ebony wood fill stick and cover it up. Won't look perfect, but will diminish the light refraction from the gouge...meaning it will be less noticeable...
I wouldn't let the dealer touch it if it was my truck. Odds are pretty good that they would create some squeaks or rattles. I would fill it with some perfect plastic putty, texture it and paint it with color matched dash paint by spraying some in a plastic cup and dabbing it on with a q tip so you can leave the panel in the truck. I would not pull it out if it was me. Here's a good video on it.
Would you guys have the dealer warranty fix it or leave it? Kinda torn.. Not sure how involved it would be to pull that piece out.
Thats a tough one... i know it would bug me to no end and id stare at it every time i got in my truck. My last truck had a dash crack, the infamous Chevy crack and that bugged me alot. But at the same point, pulling apart a dash to replace isn't easy, usually a lot of stuff has to come apart and at that point there's a good chance some rattles or noises could appear.
Every dealer once a week has the upholstery guy show up to repair interiors of the latest trade-ins. Call the service advisor and ask when the upholstery guy is scheduled. He’ll fix in short order. You’ll never know it been repaired and you don’t have to pay the dealer a penny.

If it bugs you, have them fix it. But, if it's a gouge they won't cover that under warranty and they may not even if it's a crack...but it does look like a gouge to me. Either way, they aren't likely to replace it. They'll have a trim shop come out and fill it and paint it to match. Once they are done, you probably won't be able to tell it was ever there.
