I have a 1994 Ford Explorer with 4 wheel drive which is having starting problems. The people at the repair shop don't know whats wrong and this has happened before only a few weeks ago. They replaced the neutral safety switch so I know its not that like a friend suggested. I could really use some help here. Thanks!
will it crank or nothing. this may sound dumb but does the battery have a good charge. i would look into the starter solonid. but first try jumping it from the starter
Ez test to know if its the solinoid, turn the key to on but dont attempt to start it, open the hood and on the left side a little bit past the battery you will see this sort of round thing on the wall with two terminals and wires connected, take a screw driver and touch it to those two terminals at the same time, engine should start cranking and start (only will start if the key is in the on position) but if the problem does not occur bad solinoid. ITs a neat little thing that you can only do on FORDS!!!!
I've recently had a starting problem with my '94 Explorer 6-cyl. It would crank, but not start. One thing to look at is the tach. If the tach is moving, then the engine is likely getting spark and the tach is run off of the output of the coil. Since I was getting tach movement, I suspected no gas. After checking the fuel pump emergency switch to ensure it hadn't tripped, I did some listening. I didn't hear the fuel pump when I turned the key to "on" position. I played with the fuel pump relay to make sure it was seated and voila!, it started.
Looks like a common problem here! My 99 wouldn't start, I tapped the fuel pump relay and it started right up! I found that the rear wiper relay is the same, so I swapped it for the fuel pump one. I haven't had a problem since (the rear wiper hardly ever worked anyway!)
f thew sound is what you could describe a s a "machine gun" then its the selenoid.
Not nessesary true, in that case must likley a dead battery, the solinoid, you get no warning, one day you wont be able to start, or an indicator is you turn the key it cranks stops cranks stops, and finally starts then its the solinoid.
I have a 94' Explorer 4-wheel drive and is also having starting problems. It will not do anything at all. Absolutely nothing. No turn over, no clicking, but the lights do come on very dim though, except when I turn the headlights on when I do that it drains everything. I need help. What could it be?
sounds like a dead battery to me superdup
did u charge it all or how old is it?
a good way to test to see if your battery doesn have enuff power is to start it up and turn on the a dome light or sumthing and then turn on your lights and if the dome light dims momentarily you have a bad batttery
