What is the best way to make sure I get all the air out of my cooling system? I replaced a leaky hose about a week ago and filled everthing back up. Tried topping it off running but coolant kept rising and dropping in the radiator. Kinda like the thermostat would open, then I'd top it off then it would push most of it back out the radiator. So I shut it off, removed the small cap on my heater hose and filled it until I got no bubbles. Thermostat is only a few months old. Anyway, checked it a week later and it took about a gallon of water and there are no visible leaks anywhere.
As any fluid change....you usually recheck the fluid after running the vehicle for awile. Seems the air that was in there eventually made its way to the radiator, thats why you had to top it off with more. If your not overheating and your radiator is full......seems good to go.
Thanks MunsterGarage, I'll keep an eye on it for a while and hope it stays full. that hose was kinda hard to spot. It was the small one that runs from the throttle body to the intake sensor tree. It wouldn't leak until it got real warm, then would swell up on one end and spray.
yeah...that tree you speak of...Im replacing now.....the pipe that runs off the tree had a small rust hole under it. It took me awhile to find it because the leak was so slow it evaporated on the intake, so I could aways smell the coolant but couldnt find the leak. hope all goes good, later
Egor, Run the front end onto ramps, that'll get the front up 6-8 inches, open cap, let thermostat open, then hit the heat.
The additional front end height will place the heater core well below the inlet for the radiator, should push the air out.
