I have 4.0 V6 1990 Ranger. Have had the truck for a year now and after about 6 months it started running bad. Fuel economy went down from a consistent 20 mpg to around 13-14 mpg. Had to send the it to the mechanic when it just died on me without warning, he replaced the spark plugs and wires and it worked fine for a bit but went back to running bad soon.
As the title says it shudders when accelerating especially if a floor it and always when going from 55 to 65 mph. A friend thinks it is a misfire/dead cylinder but my ear is not good enough to identify that from engine noise. Does anyone have suggestions how to diagnose it or has anyone experienced a similar problem?
My '96 developed a shudder once that was bad under acceleration and went away when it was not under load. The bolts on my carrier bearing had come loose and fallen out.
