All of a sudden, I am getting intermittent Shifter-Interlock freeze, in other words, I can't move the shifter from P at times. Other times it is normal.
Temperatures in Florida have dropped big time and it seems to have started with the change in temps.
Though I am aware of an alternate method to get the shifter out of P, per the Owner's Handbook and Factory Service Manual, I don't understand why all of a sudden this is happening.
I read there is a Solenoid in the steering column, but that is all I know.
Any tips from anyone who has had this problem? Mine is a 1997 4.0 liter extended.
UPDATE: spoke to a friend who had the same problem with his Toyota pickup truck, and he told me it was caused by a worn out Key. i pulled my unused factory spare key and tried it and the problem dissapeared.
there seems to be a plunger or something in the ignition switch that a worn out key does not reach or push. I compared both keys and the old key is pretty worn at the pointed end.
