47 ford 1ton

Can eny one tell me if I can put a 1/2 ton axl under my 1ton I know that the springs are different withs Iam not consern about that at this time. That way it would be so much easier to put disk brakes on it they make a lot of kits for the 1/2 ton. THANK YOU. 🇺🇸 😎

Why not just do a frame swap with a more modern truck? I am doing that using a 2002 Ford Ranger Ext cab truck frame. The wheel base is almost the same and I can modify that if needed. I might loose a little internal bed height, but thats ok. Its easy to find brakes and stuff for Rangers.

The tonner has a 122" wheelbase. I think the 1/2 ton is 114" without looking it up. A frame swap has many benefits if done correctly,( and you like that kind of thing), but is a huge undertaking compared to just swapping out a front axle. I have some tonners and some half tons here, so I could do some checking. I know the kingpins are the same. Of course you'd have a different bolt pattern front and rear. I would keep the tonner axle and get a remote mount vacuum booster for the stock brakes. I have a good friend that runs 4 or 5 early to mid 50s chev dump trucks in his excavation/firewood and hauling business. They are all either one tons or 1 1/2 tons. All have the booster, no discs. I have driven them and they downright STOP with quite low pedal effort. And that is fully loaded. 30+ years of heavy hauling with this fleet and no problems.
