SYNC3 Update?

For those who are interested or for those who have not checked the Owner.Ford website lately, this pass weekend when I was on the website, I had a SYNC3 update waiting for me.

I performed said update but so far, I don’t see anything different on the immediate surface so perhaps it was just system improvements in the background because I’m still on version 3.0 Build 19205. Also, I noticed I’m finally able to check for updates again because when I had my APIM changed a few weeks ago, the check for updates feature wouldn’t work.

I have a 2016 Lariat so perhaps this update is for owners who cannot update pass version 3.0

Have a great day.

I took a look for my '18 on the Ford owners site and nothing jumped out as having an update available. I do have the truck connected to WiFi and auto-updates enabled, maybe it's just taking care of itself OTA?

Not overly concerned as I use android auto the majority of the time and that stays updated/patched through phone.

Both of my vehicles show the update. I'm just in no hurry to get it done.

I’m not quite sure but if your 2018 F150 has SYNC 3 version 3.3, more than likely this update is not for you.

2016 and I believe 2017 F150’s are maxed out at SYNC 3 version 3.0 and can’t update to 3.3 because of different hardware and software.

My Fusions got the update, I did it using a USB stick, the update itself only took a few minutes.

Makes sense - thanks. I'll take a look at current version / build later. Probably already the latest as you said.

I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed but I’m decently tech savvy, if that’s a way to put it. But all these sync 3 updates are confusing time. I have a ‘17 and idk if there’s a new update for me or not. I’ve updated once since I bought it in 2017 using a USB because the OTA never seemed to work. My truck is connected to my wifi when at home.

Don’t count on the OTA update.
Always check on the Owner.Ford website for updates.

Ford / SYNC is slow about letting owners know about an update and they don’t let all update available owners know at the same time so be patient and keep checking the website.

I updated my '17 to 3.0 via a USB stick today.
I got an email from Ford with all the info and links to the download.

I am not sure what all it did.
It did change some graphics and.... it put a button on the home screen to turn the heated steering wheel on and off.

That last thing is reason enough to update ( if you have a heated steering wheel).

Wow......They surely took their time sending you the 3.0 update with said heated steering wheel icon on the home screen because this has been out since earlier this year.

I updated my 2017 f150 running Sync 3.0 to latest and greatest via a USB flash-drive. I did get an email from Ford with info and link to the download.
IMHO...I don't see any difference from previous version. Except, I did notice it turned off my ambient lighting option, so turned that back on. But, otherwise... ehhh... Not the most effective way to update a system!! Actually, it's pretty terrible. The "Auto" start process is suspect once the flash-drive is inserted into USB. Really, it should POP a window, asking if you'd like to Update.. Please select YES or NO. That way...you actually know it is updating. Just in case the User does not do the flash-drive correctly from computer.

Hmmmm, I thought the Ambient Light feature with the different colors was removed after the 2016 model year.

Nope, my '17 has it.
Door panels turn red when the doors are open... don't remember my '13 doing that.

The door panels have always turned red on the 2015-2019 F150 when they’re opened and the vehicle has ambient lighting.

I was talking about the “multi“ color interior ambient lighting.

Yes, I knew what you were saying and yes, my '17 has the multi color choice of ambient light color.
I said I don't remember if my '13 door panels turned red when the door was open... obviously I am aware of what the '17 does.
