Getting ready to order new windshield and rear window seals for my 73. I have the chrome trim. I think I've read on here that Steele has the best ones, but before pulling the trigger I thought I'd ask.
Also, Steele recommends the 3M Auto Bedding and Glazing Compound for the install. Is that the product you'd use?
Chances are they all come from the same place. there just isn't enough demand for too many manufacturers to tool up.
I used LMC ones and they worked okay. if you have the large stainless trim on the windshield I'll warn you it was a biatch to work with. be sure your installer knows what he's in for.
It's possible Steele makes them but I've run into this before, often companies say they make their own products and sometimes that means they make it all but lots of tiems it means they make some of it.
either way if you're not experienced in the installation you're in for a treat. and maybe a broken windshield. my normal glass installer told me call someone else next time. I'm sure if you didn't have the wide trim it would be easier.
Well, I did take it around to a few shops to get quotes, but they all said they don't reinstall original glass. My glass looks good and clear so I don't see the point in wasting it. If I break it and have to buy new glass, I'm where I would have been anyway.
I also thought about DC, but I read on here somewhere that their's is made by the same people as LMC and some people did not like the seals. I'm willing to pay a little extra for something made in the USA that has a good fit.
I would have to agree with 440 sixpack,I did one myself and there are not enough cuss word to make it better! after that I just paid someone to do it and I have done a lot of glass. my experience with LMC is not a good one for any seals replaced their with carpenters have never used Steele so I have no opinion on there stuff.I'm pretty sure carpenter makes their own,LMC is china the damn things didn't even fit the glass. my only good experience with LMC is they have always taken the stuff back no questions asked.

I dont know the best but I do 99% of all my work , but I out sourced these style wind shields as they are a pain , I did a few back in the day and its not easy , if it was like the newer which are just glued in would be easy but these have to be worked in with the seals , cost me $300 for a new windshield and they install with warranty against leaking and they supply the seal you need for what you want
Stay as far away from LMC as you can for weather stripping. I rant about this a lot, but it's for a reason. The rubber they use is garbage. I helped my father install all new weather stripping for the doors (every piece) and they lasted less than 2 years before they started to deteriorate. They never sealed out water either. Every rain/snow storm and car wash would leak considerably - to the point it caused the bottom of my doors to start rusting from the inside out. Within 4 years the weather stripping was so deteriorated it was literally cracking and crumbling apart and eventually the driver side trim was completely gone.
I replaced with Precision (bought through Bronco Graveyard) and I have been extremely impressed so far.
If you read Steele's website is says " the majority of our products are made in the USA ". majority could mean 51%. do you feel lucky ? for an extra $150 over the Precision , which is LMC's brand I'm not sure it's a great buy.
I'm pulling my glass out for a full repaint and I'll be watching this to see if someone tries Steele. I'll pay the price if it's worth it but I've learned you don't always get what you pay for.
Another note is Steele only lists 2 gaskets, one with chrome and one without. I'm not sure what that means since LMC has 3 options, no chrome, chrome strip and molded chrome as I have.
Well, since everyone here is saying Precision, I'll try that. I swore I read a thread like this where everyone said Steele, but I guess I was wrong (confirming why I wrote this thread in the first place!)
I asked the Steele place about where everything is made, they make all the rubber stuff, if there is something with a metal part or whatnot, it could be outsourced elsewhere.
Anyway, I'll check back here a few times in case anyone has a different opinion, but looks like I'll be ordering those Precision seals this week. Thanks all.

I have a question about your post, from how I read it LMC is selling Precision brand seals. I am I correctly reading this?
Thanks
