#bigtruckproblems

I want to preface this by saying I love my F250, and obviously I made the choice to buy it and use it as a daily driver. With that said I feel that 95% of the time the truck is a great DD. However, I do sometimes find the other 5% of the time it can be to big as a DD. Things like parking lots/spots are small (just have to park further away), or maybe narrow roads, and some other times. Overall I wouldn't trade it as a DD for the world. I was just wondering if I am nuts and the only one who feels that way.

My truck isn't really a DD because I'm retired and I don't put a lot of miles on it. I just got back from a drive on Hiway 101 along Hoods canal here in WA. There are a couple really narrow bridges on hiway 101 that would have upped the pucker factor substantially if a logging truck had been coming the other direction. I probably would have pulled off and let them pass. So far that's been it for me as far as that goes. Going out FS roads and trying to find a place to turn around can be a challenge now and then with the land barge and camping spaces take more planning now too. I don't mind the parking thing so much and just park further out. What's annoying is when that isn't an option and you get stuck sandwiched between a couple cars and are barely able to get a door open far enough to get in or out. I blame the owners of the lot for that one though.

When I ordered my 2000 ccsb I first test drove a cclb and took it to a mall to try to park it, thus the ccsb. I miss the long bed but a cclb would be just too long when in town. What I love is when I park in the north 40 in a parking lot and get out of the store and some ahole is parked next to me. Mine has regressed from a daily driver and is basically my tow vehicle.

I to have a CCSB too, Totally agree about parking in the North 40. Without a doubt someone parks beside you, even if there are spots open elsewhere.

Mine is no longer a daily driver, mainly because it won't fit in the parking garage at work. And parking in the street in and around downtown Houston...eh, I'd rather not. But I have no real issues otherwise. Yeah the parking can be an issue. As noted, just park a bit further out, and always have it where you drive out, rather than have to back out. Skinny roads have not been an issue yet, but some overhanging tree branches that need trimmed (by the city) sometimes cause a bit of concern. So you are not alone. But you just need to be able to work with what you have.

Full agreement. Drove w the wife to some sort of town-wide art fair about 40 miles. Felt like king of the road until we got into this small town built on cow-paths for roads. Felt like a bull in a china shop. "Was that a speed bump or a Prious? moment a few times.

It's the price I (willingly) pay.

Our truck isn't a daily driver but mainly our trailer hauler and my weekend rig. For it's purpose, it is perfect but there is the occasional parking lot that is lined tight. Most lots are manageable but in an effort to pack 1 extra spot (more customers!!!), business around here pack them in. Those spots make the width of the vehicle restricting....although my F150's body was the same width and had the same problem.

In most cases we take my wife's '17 Explorer; however, that's almost more of a hassle. Where the crewcab excels is it's short (front to rear) doors. To pack the kids in and out of the backseat on the Explorer, you need about 3 feet on either side of the vehicle to open the door enough to get people in and out. Sitting taller with the shorter doors, it's easier to open the door and stand up as you get out. The funny thing is, the Explorer's body is only 1" narrower than the Super Duty, both excluding the mirrors.

The places I won't allow my truck to go:
- Parking garages
- Valet lots
- Hobby Lobby

Mine is mostly for towing and hauling, but I still use it for the occasional commute and around town; just so it doesn't sit forever.

Have to do all the aforementioned things - park in outlying areas, fold the mirrors, deal with smart cars seeking shelter in the fenderwells, etc...

This is my second go-round with a CCLB DRW, so I know to expect the occasional issue. On occasion, I have to go to Columbus for work - I know which entrance to the parking garage I can fit through, and then just go to the top level and park it. The bigger frustration for me is the obliviousness of drivers to notice the thing - especially with a trailer attached. It amazes me that it seems to turn invisible as soon as you put a 40' 5th wheel behind it.

There is a big difference between the 2 we own. My F350 CC long bed 4x4 can be a pain to park because of not only the length, but the turning radius of the 4x4. The wife's Excursion is 2wd and much much easier to park and get around in. I still love my F350, but will find myself hoping in the Excursion if it's there...mainly for the 500 watt stereo...

I've got an RCLB, still at times the truck feels too long. The size of these trucks is one of my only complaints, but yet the size is why I bought it and love driving it 90% of the time. Currently looking for a F450 RCLB to replace this, just need the turning radius and additional capacity. The 450 will be my DD.. gets interesting trying to maneuver downtown Boston MA with a dually.

CCSB 4X4 here as well. Not a DD but does get driven a lot. Got 3 vehicles to choose from to drive each day.

But yes, parking is a pain. The spaces are made for small box economy compact cars. So I just use two so that the truck fits, or park in the back 40. Even my Genesis G80 seems to be too big for some of the parking spots around here. Why can't they make parking spots big enough to fit a full size vehicle? Even my '73 K5 Blazer seems to barley fit at times.

You guys should try using a dually as a daily driver here in the UK, car park spaces are tight for normal cars in some places, we have some single track roads that are only 9ft wide in places & then there's the 2.0 metre height barrier the some supermarkets have. Would I change it? Absolutely not!

Gosh, I 've got a CCLB with a ranch hand front bumper(adds 1') and I DD it every day. Never once have i thought it was to big, I parallel park it with ease on town roads and drive in down town with it. If there was a 12' bed option I would take it

My CCLB is no longer my daily driver because of the commute I have. But I manage to drive it around the city pretty well when I am driving it. Only time it gets to where I need to be really concerned is in tight parking areas. But I always tend to park further out from most places. As for the parking garages it just wont fit.

My DD is my other beloved vehicle, 2005 Honda Element. Most versatile car for the stuff I do. However when all my boys come home, like now for Thanksgiving, I spend more time in the SD. Otherwise, as I try to preserve the SD I usually use it as a weekend driver (firewood, and such). But if we get big snow, I'll be out in it for sure enjoying the snow driving.
