Did some quick research on carpeting for the truck. 1978 regular cab, and despite the verified column shift C6, low tunnel (about 5" tall, no removable bits). Here's what I found:
ACC carpet is stocked all over the place. Basic ACC is cheapest at Rock Auto, about equal to Lund (whoever they are) on Amazon.
Newark carpet only goes back to the seat, most of the others go back to the back wall.
Color matters, though... my truck is blue so blue carpet is needed. On Rock, OC, JBG, Factory, Summit (both brands) Newark I have a choice of two blues, Amazon one, Stock Interiors SIX. Luckily I think I can work with the two (light and dark) prevalent colors, but the difference is not the end of the world when you consider the carpet's projected life span.
Mass backing - Think I am liking this for the added soundproofing and feel of the carpet. Note some places charge over twice as much for the same option - buyer beware!
What I am undecided on is whether to upgrade to the deeper pile Essex... anyone have any experience with it? I am actually leaning away from it... after all, this is a 1978 work TRUCK.
Any thoughts?
I think you'll find it's all ACC , it's just a matter of what label and what the price is.
I wish this wasn't the case because I'm not an ACC fan in the slightest. their products are just " ok " and not much more. but this is what we have , if you find otherwise please post it.
Last winter I ordered carpet from Stock Interiors for my '64 Dodge I'm working on. I opted for the mass backing on it and am glad I did. It definitely helps to form the carpet and contour it to the floor pan and trans tunnel better. Only downside is that it takes longer to lay out nice and flat once installed.
The carpet I received from them was from ACC as well. I thought the fit was decent for what it was. The trans tunnel was a tad tall in the very front, but it wasn't much of an issue.
I personally liked dealing with Stock Interiors alot. I liked that I could get free carpet samples and the selection of colors and grains for the fabric. I liked the shipping time as well. All in all when I put carpet in my '77 I will likely go through them again, because I now also see they have jade green carpet for my truck!
I also purchased from Stock Interiors for my supercab. Like Dave145, I liked that it was very clear what I was ordering.
I got the mass backed version and was pleased with how it laid out. Being able to lay it out in the sun for a while helps. We have Doug fir needles everywhere here, so I stayed away from deeper pile....................
Got ours from Rock Auto. Very happy with it. The molded forms were spot on. just make sure and lay the carpet outside on a warm day prior to installing to take the shipping folds out and help it "settle".
I have the mass backed cutpile ACC from rock auto in my 75. It fit very well except for the fact that I had to trim it under the passenger door sill and have a little bit of extra material where it meets the passenger kick panel.
Overall it was super cheap at rock, I'd order it again, and I think the mass backing is worth it for sound.
John - should have been more clear... it started as a work truck. I suspect with the EFI manifolds, Offy intake, Holley 4 barrel, stereo with amp and sub... I may have overshot that a bit. Today... more working on the bed for the Herculiner. 40+ years of neglect to try and clean out.
Gotcha. Good luck with it. When I researched our flooring I did find that the rubber/vinyl from RA was the same model number etc... as the other suppliers at a much lower price.
I take it yours is a 300? We just finished up our efi, offey, carb. upgrade about two weeks ago.
Stock interiors gets my vote!! Mine fit perfect. I thought I had a pic before I put the seat in but cant find it. I added brown floor mats as well.

ALL: HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Count your blessings.
Here's hoping mine comes out half as well as yours seem to have! I temporarily shelved this while I work on the prep for Herculiner... forty plus years of peeling paint, surface rust, and some kind of very tenacious latex (yeah, it stretches and peels - when it actually lets go) has worn two paint stripper wheels and three wire brushes out. Even had to peal apart my aging Skil drill when it decided to run at half-speed... contact cleaner in the switch, Mobil1 in the bearings, leftover CV joint moly grease in the gears, and it spins up like new. Lord knows I have abused that drill over the last 20 years or so, so I owed it. . No rust flakes or loose paint left, and every square inch is wire-wheel scored so the Herculiner should grip OK.
But when I do get the carpet, I think the standard carpet with mass backing will get the nod, and I like the extra touch of doing the back cab wall.
