I am going to add a set of Marker lights to my 2018 f350. I ordered the recon light and harness from Stage3 this past week, but there were zero instructions or paperwork with the lights. the box only had the lights, a sticker, and the wiring harness. Nothing else.
A few questions for anyone that has installed the Recon kit:
- what screws did you use to attach the lights? what size hole do you need to drill for the lights?
- is there any type of template as to where each light should be located on a non-moonroof truck?
- where do you tap the wiring harness into? Again, this is on a truck that did not come with the factory markers.
Without a template of some sort its a risky endeavor drilling into that roof. Personally I wouldn't even consider it if the hole weren't already there. That being said, maybe find a truck that has clearance lights and get you're measurements that way. Check and re check a 100 times before you drill anything.
Hi, I added the OEM roof marker lights from a Super Duty on my 17 F150. The cabs are the same in every way except the roof panel is slightly thicker on a SD.
I just took pics of a SD roof at a dealership and then measured them evenly and as close to the pic i could. Turned out perfect.
Cover the entire front section of the roof in white masking tape. Then you have a good surface to draw or make pencil mark on for measurements. I used a dremel to cut the holes.
If your using or need screws that make contact with the aluminum roof be sure the material the screw is made out of is compatible with aluminum to prevent corrosion.
new SD at dealership for reference. Front of the lights basically line up with where the roof starts to turn down towards the windshield. 17+ OEM SD light. Sheet metal template Sheet metal template fitment check on the light. Masking taped roof for measurement markings. Finished product Finished product. Turned out pretty good. I think one of the lights was just a tad bit crooked but could not tell unless looking straight down on the lights from the bed. Never had a leak.
Have to drop the headliner to wire them up. I ran my power down thru the A pillar and down thru the firewall to one of the front marker lights. I just grounded them to the nearest screw available.
