After replacing a broken timing belt I was able to drive for about a day befor the new Timing belt broke. I have asked a couple of people and none can agree on one problem. Althoug there was a common diagnosis. Can there be a problem with the tensioner?
Hi marinerugby9;
Welcome to the FTE Family!
It's a possibly that the tensioner pulley-wheel locked up! Did you hear any strange noises before the break? Did it happen when the motor got hot?

I had this happen once when I replaced my timing belt. I didn't inspect the gears when I replaced it (because I didn't want to mess up the timing). It was actually pretty stupid at the time, but hey, live and learn. It turns out one of the teeth that was on the underside of the gear was torn up and pretty sharp. It tore that timing belt up after about 4 to 5 engine revolutions. Good thing I wasn't being stupid again and hanging my head overtop the engine while it was running. Man, did I feel like an idiot.
Anyway, check the everything close, you might have the same type of problem.
Speaking of timing belts, did Ford change to timining belts on all their engines or do some engines still have timing chains? I have a 1995, 3 liter V-6 with lots of miles and wonder if I have a belt or a chain. If it's a belt I probably should have it checked.
Hi Donald Rohret;
A quick way to find you answer is to call your favorite auto parts dealer and just give your info to them on what you own, they'll tell what you need! My Haynes repair manual only goes up to 92' or i'd tell you right now!
Happy hunting!

I did hear some noises, I am sure that it wasn't the valves though. I did notice that when i was driving after about 2 to 3 miles I lost oil pressure. I regained it after stopping and restarting the engine. Again it would only last for about 2 to 3 miles. All of the gears seem to me in great shape.

Need more info to properly diagnose situation! Vehicle? Year? Motor size? Whatever else? Noise > Sqeeling ?
