Changed the transmission, clutch, drive shaft u-joints, power steering pump, injectors, glow plugs, installed an efuel system, deleted EBPV pedestal, new turbo cartridge, new under valve cover injector harnesses, down pipe and bellowed up pipes. I tried to just use a new O ring to fix the dip stick oil pan leak but it failed 100% I ordered a Strictly Diesel adapter and that worked awesome. It took a while to start up but when it did she was much more quiet. As of right now I have a leak free 7.3. I have new covercraft door panels to install along with door pins and bushings and a new rear bumper. I got the truck from a guy and it belonged to his twin brother that died. He didn't want to get rid of the truck but he couldn't afford to have it fixed and he couldn't do it himself and he was watching it fall apart. I promised him I would bring it by when it was fixed so he could see it. In a few more weeks I'll take it over and show it to him.
Great job man, tahys alot of work, I bet the dude is going to be very happy with all the work you did to his bros truck.
But you know the rules no pictures then nothing happened lol..
Sounds like you replaced half the truck! What did you use for the Efuel?
Thats great that you're going to show the previous owner the truck.
I used the Irate Diesel e-fuel kit. This has been quite the project. I have not even drove it yet. Just moved it back and forth to make sure the clutch worked and the trans shifted (zf5). I need to get the doors done before I put the rear bumper on because after the bumper is on it wont fit in my garage. Tomorrow I'm going to finish removing the rusted hitch, I got 4 of the 6 bolts out with an impact but the last two need some oxy acetylene love. Then start on the door pins. I'm waiting on door speakers I wanted new ones because I dont want to be taking off the door panels for a few years. I already replaced the window motors with real Ford instead of the made in China ones that were in there. I also have the door handle braces from CPaddict to install. I need to find sun visors *ANYONE* the ones in the truck are totally degraded and cracked. After all that is done I will take it and power wash underneath from the last 10 years of leaking. Then tires, interior detail and minor stuff.
Nice! I was just looking at the Irate kit this evening. Yes, there is alot of debate among people which is better.
I dont see how one could be much better than another. Its a pump, filters and some bent hard line. After seeing what people were spending building their own it was a wash on buying the kit. I just put a Kennedy dual lift and mega filter on my LB7 Duramax. That was in my opinion the better choice over a fass or airdog because of low pressure, high volume with no fuel aeration. But with the 7.3 Im assuming they all pretty much work on the same principal. My Kennedy came with a oil pressure sensor to shut the pump off if it senses no oil pressure. That is one thing I'm not overly excited about with the Irate kit. I'm sure there are mods to add that but It will have to wait.
I replaced the door pins and strikers today. I'm working by myself so progress is slow. The doors open and close 90% better I am having an issue with the drivers door. It closes and latches but it needs about another 1/4 inch to fully seat. I have moved the striker as far back as possible. If I could move it another 1/4 inch the door would be perfect. The PO had glued weather stripping all around the door. Like I said the new hardware improved the situation greatly but didnt totally fix it.
I was able to get a good portion of the gap in the door corrected. The door was sagging slightly so i loosened up the hinge bolts and straightened out the body lines I'm assuming there is a significant amount of wear on the locking mechanism so I think this is as good as it will get as of right now. I installed the handle reinforcements from CPaddict. It is a very nice kit at a affordable price and it works beautiful.
I installed the Irate kit this past spring, I previously had the beans kit and was not satisfied with the plumbing of the fuel lines into the back of the head. And going through a Bosch 044 fuel pump every 2 years was getting old.
The main reason I like the Irate kit is there new filter bracket design that raises the filters up into the chassis more. You can barely see them now. I dont have to worry so much when driving that I'll hit a rock going through some nasty country.
That looks nice. They have quite a few nifty parts at CPaddict. I have been looking at the aluminum sill plates they offer, my stock plastic ones are quite worn.
Installed the drivers side door panel today. I put in new door speakers, Ford window motor and Ford door lock actuator. I had to go to Harbor Freight to get their big rivet gun to do the lock actuator rivet, 20% off coupon and it came to $17 and it came with a bunch of rivets so I didn't even have to buy any. The 1/4 inch that comes with the kit works perfect.
