Leaving Home Depot noticed that the SYNC screen had gone dark. Stopped the truck, shut off and started again and the screen came back. Anyone else had this issue? Was this an early warning about troubles down the road? I have until the end of the year before the warranty runs out.
Happened on my '15 a few times, go dark shortly after you start. Restart seemed to fix it..
This used to be fairly common on computers and what happens is the boot sequence would get inferred with by any input, even from a mouse or the keyboard. Companies got a bit smarter after the complaints come in why do I get: Freezes, restarts, failure to full boot (dark screen) etc. So they rewrite the code to not accept any input or selective input until the boot has fully executed and ready for input.
Tell the dealer and see if there are any updates or if they can do a reinstall.
have a 2019 Explorer purchased in April; screen was black a few months ago when i remote started it. shut it off and restarted, but was still off. ran some errands and after starting it after coming out of the store, screen was back on. has worked fine since then. no clue as to what happened

More than likely it’s just a glitch in the SYNC 3 system that cleared itself up after you stopped and started the vehicle again.
With that being said, you should consider purchasing a Ford ESP before your warranty expires.
Im dealing with Sync issues right now. A few weeks back i did the latest sync update and when it went to go reboot it froze my screen and did not allow any touch input. I could still use the buttons to go through the radio and make calls and even had android auto come up on the screen. When android auto was disconnected it defaulted to half a map screen with no other info shown. It always loads to either a black screen or half a map screen. Touch doesnt work. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the apim and it didnt fix it. Now they tried replacing the screen and apim and it didnt fix it. After installing the new parts they are installing the new sync update which i believe is not compatable with the as built data in my truck. Every time they install the new sync update it basically makes the components bricks. I would caution anyone about doing the latest update on their sync system and have the dealer do it just so its on them if it damages your system. My truck is a job one made in october 2016. I have had zero issues with this up until i installed the new sync update. My truck has been at the dealer for over a week now and they are talking with ford to figure it out. My truck is out of the normal warranty and luckily i have an aftermarket warranty that is covering it or else this was going to be pretty costly for something that is entirely fords fault. Just an FYI
